Today I got to experience one of the most awesome things I have done this entire semester. I WENT HORSEBACK RIDING IN THE FRIGGING SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAINS! I never thought I would have said that sentence. :)
7 of us hopped on a bus and headed to Los Alayos equestrian school in a town right outside of Granada. We had scheduled a half day ride and it was just going to be our group so we were really excited.
After picking out our horses and putting our hats on, we hit the trail! Of course five minutes into it half of our hats fell off from the wind, but that's beside the point. :) We rode for two hours, took a break, and then another two hours back. It was so exciting because we went right into the mountains and were walking on some steep, rocky trails and I loved every minute of it. Sometimes the horses would have their little moments but no one got hurt and everything turned out awesome by the end. :)
My horses name was Galeda and her and I got along great. I told her she just needed to do her thing and I would hang on tight on some of the steeper hills, and that's exactly what she did! Sometimes some of the girls would freak out on the hills because the horse would have to trot/canter up the hill or walk funny, but I was like "I walk differently when I go up/down hill too, and horses are animals they're the same thing!" Then they understood better. Staying calm was defintely key. If one horse freaked out, they all wanted to. Galada was fine though I just pulled her reins and talked to her and she would calm down. She only did a little buck once when another horse bit her butt, so can ya blame her? haha.
The view we had of the mountains and the trees was absolutely breathtaking. I felt like I was living in a dream or something. Lots of my pictures are crooked and blurry which apparently happens when you try to take a lot of pictures from the back of a horse. :) I definitely want to go back and do this again!
