Ok, since I now have couple of months in Sydney there is going to be a lull in the crrrazzzy happenings in the world of Lizzie's travels. So I'm just going to use this page to update you on random things that may or may not be important but keep checking this blog post as I'll put all my Sydney stuff here.
1. Australia Day - good fun! Weather was blisteringly hot and it started with a walk down to the Opera House to see the boats. Bumped in to a guy I met in New Zealand and spent the rest of the day with him and his mates. Started in the Opera Bar, having a liquid lunch then we made our way to The Rocks where live bands were playing all day. Australia Day is like Christmas for the people of Sydney. They make a huge deal out of it with entertainment everywhere, day off work, skydivers falling from the sky with Aussie flags, fireworks etc etc. As it got dark we headed to Darling Harbour for fireworks, which were amazing (Sydney definately knows fireworks) and more drinks.
2. LexisNexis - yep I'm working for them again. 6 months in and I was suffering severe withdrawal symptons, I just couldn't take being separated from the legal publishing giant any longer. Oh and apparently they are the only people that will hire me. Wherever I am in the world.
3. Working - it sucks. No more lying in until 11. Boo.
4. Tequila - why do I ever think its a good idea??
5. Working sucked so much I have decided to leave Sydney early. Two months early in fact. Timmy and Sam - a couple of friends from home have arrived and have persuaded me to quit work (to be honest didn't take much persuading) and travel up the east coast with them. Despite the level of verbal abuse they give me they are pretty good guys and I'm looking forward to travelling with people for the first time.
6. Last few days in Sydney - apart from the last days at work (bleurgh) I did quite a bit at the end. Toronga Zoo was definately a highlight as was the sky walk, this is up the huge tower in Sydney where you get to wear an attractive all in one suit thing and jump on the clear panes of glass hundreds of feet above the city freaking timmy out! Good fun. We also went out and got drunk a few more times.
7. The fact that I am leaving Sydney tomorrow means that the whole reason for this blog post is pointless.
8. Forgot to mention the Scientology rally we wandered in to.... a bunch of people milling around wearing masks and carrying placards denouncing Scientology. Really funny... some of the things they claim is wrong with the "Church" of Scientology.
- L. Ron Hubbard was quoted saying: "I wan't to start a religion. That's where the money is."
- Scientologists are taught to harass, threaten, frame, censor, sue steal from or lie to their critics.
- Ex-Scientologist operatives have actually admitted to brain-washing members.
- Tom Cruise.
- The Scientology orientation video explains that if you don't join the "church" you might as well kill yourself.
- They believe that the cause of all our problems are the brainwashed souls of massacred aliens (called "Thetans"), attaching to our bodies. These aliens were killed by the evil "Lord Xenu" to control his galaxy's overpopulation.
The list goes on. And on. They also claim that Scientology operates a network of underground slave labor camps, a secret police force and a private navy. It is also responsible for the single largest infiltration, wiretapping and theft of documents in US government history. I feel the private navy claim may be a little far fetched.
9. I have been asked (ordered) to change what I have said about Timmy and Sam, my new travel buddies. By "pretty good guys" I obviously meant they are wonderful human beings, incredibly handsome, very polite, clever, generous and funny. They certainly never poke me, hit me or pull my hair. And when they are conserving their energy (being lazy) and letting me organise their trip up the coast for them this is only for my own good.
10. I love them really.
11. Since writing this Scientology's secret police have forced me in to their underground slave camp, I am now serving Tom Cruise in the long battle against Lord Xenu.
