Hi Everyone, I know that this has been a long time coming.
Well, here we are. Our last night in NZ and it's gone so quickly. We're currently in Auckland before we fly out to Fiji in the morning and then I'll be home in 3 weeks.
After Franz Josef we headed to Queenstown (via and awesome stop off in Wanaka - a quirky cinema and a place called Puzzleworld - right up my street!). Queenstown was amazing - a small but exciting town with Fergburgers, The World Bar (drinks in teapots) and Bungy Jumps...they call it the Adventure Capital of the World! I managed to go Whitewater rafting which was great fun.
After departing Queenstown we travelled through the cities and towns of the South Island. There aren't many - it's very sparsely populated. Climbed a mountain called John at Lake Tekapo and we doubled back on ourselves through Christchurch and Kaikoura up towards the North Island.
The ferry journey across from the South Island to the North Island was very scenic. It was an enjoyable journey. We arrived into the capital, Wellington - had a good night out and visited the Te Papa museum - it was huge! Definately required some brain power for that one! After 2 days in Wellington we headed up the east coast of the north island to Napier, via a very worthwhile trip to the 'Tui' Brewery where we tasted 3 pints for about 70 pence! BARGAIN. Napier is a beautiful art deco town which had to be completely rebuilt after an earthquake in the 30s.
Fitted in a skydive at Lake Taupo which is the size of Singapore - it was incredible! There is a DVD! then onto Rotarua which smelt of rotten eggs because of all the geothermal activity there - it was so bizarre to be stood in the middle of a park with boiling ponds and steam spontaneously rising from random holes in the ground!
We've just completed a trip of the Bay of Islands and Cape Reinga - North of Auckland at the tip of North NZ! It was beautiful - very different to the scenery of the South Island but so unique and unspoilt. It's so peaceful up there too!
Auckland is a huge city - more people live here than in the whole of the South Island. We've been up the SKYTOWER which provided us with some spectacular sights of the city, but overall I'm a much bigger fan of the smaller towns and the countryside over here!
I'd best sign off because my time's nearly up but hopefully I can update you all from Fiji!
Hope that everyone is well. Take care and enjoy the Summer back home! I will see you from 5th July.
Love Lizzi xxxxxxx
