Well, I'm off to Chicago this afternoon with a couple of my peeps for a long weekend. I've always wanted to go and my wish is finally coming true. I'm sure we won't come close to seeing all the sites but I'm sure I'll get a good taste of what it's like and will be able to decide if it's worth coming back for a closer look.
Officially the City of Chicago, on the shores of freshwater Lake Michigan in Illinois, is the 3rd most populous in the US after NYC and LA. As of the 2017 census-estimate, Chicago has a population of 2,716,450, and is the most populous city in both the state of Illinois and the entire Midwestern US.
I'm armed with my Chicago Explorer Pass. It is a prepaid pass that allows me to enter 3 attactions for a greatly reduced price from paying at the gate. There are several passes with differing costs that you can buy.
There are so many things I want to see/do: hop on and off the Hop On- Hop Off bus tour, take the architectural river cruise, go to a baseball game at Wrigley field, tour at least one museum, walk the Chicago Riverwalk (an open air walkway along the south bank of the Chicago River), the Lakefront Trail (a paved pathway along Lake Michigan. It's 18 miles long but a short jaunt would be nice) and The 606 (an elevated 2.7 mile trail and green space that takes in 4 neighbourhoods), check out the Buckingham Fountain, (a Chicago landmark known for its dancing waters and close to the original starting point of the iconic Route 66, take in Millennium Park and the Cloud Gate, eat pizza, and maybe do a little shopping for starters. Let's see how many of these I can cross off. Of course, I'm not going alone so we'll see how many of these appeal to my partners in crime. Whatever we do, it'll be a lot of fun.
