So, I arrive in Melbourne around about lunch time on 11th March. First jobs first, get to the city and my YHA. This should have been an very unexciting process but due to the weekend coming up, I couldnt help but get more excited than I already was. This was kicked off by a massive Jenson Button poster right outside the exit of the Domestic Terminal.... excitement level up one notch.... Once I finally get into the city I am then greeted with the numerous merchandise stands on my walk down from the station.... up another notch.
This soon levels out once I am checked in and have the mission of finding my way round melbourne, getting some lunch and stocking up for the days ahead. I think I must have walked round the large majority of the CBD over the 4 or so hours I was wandering. I'm not sure how it is possible to be able to know where you're going when roaming round London but get lost on a grid system....Anyway, I manage to grab some lunch, by my food for the next week and see a bit of Melbourne. Unfortunately, I did not prepare for the weird weather. Having looked at the weather forecast and dressed appropriately, I spent the next 30mins trying to stay upright as I slid down streets in the pouring rain in my flip flops.... highly amusing to passers by, not so much fun when you're carrying your shopping.I eventually arrived safe and sound back at my dorm and that saw the end of Day 1.
Day 2:
I woke up on the early side to go and find the program for the race weekend before checking in for my Neighbours Tour. I think this is possibly the most touristy thing I have done on my trip and that was confirmed by the fact that there were only two aussie out of a group of around 15 -20 of us. It was good fun and our Irish guide didnt take it very seriously at all. We met a member of the cast, although due to filming it was no one particularly recognisable. After a tour of the set and seeing the street we got dropped off back in the city and I headed south of the river.
My afternoon was spent walking from Melbourne's CBD, down to the Shrine of Rememberance (although with a little detour to admire some Ferrari's and buy a Jenson Button cap.), into South Melbourne, down to Albert Park and back to the CBD in time for dinner. I met up with my friend Helen at the Shrine of Rememberance and we headed to the Botanic Gardens for cake and a drink as well as an introduction to the Magic Pudding (no relation to magic mushrooms, it is a Australian Children's story, but I feel I have to read it... it has a magical pudding in it. Its got to be good!).
I then decided that may excitement needed to be let out a little bit and I headed to Albert Park to roam around the outside and do a bit of a girly excited dance. :) An early night, although not much sleep, before Day 3 and the start of the F1 weekend!!!!!
