Siena, Italy
So I finally got the internet to work... but I had to pay for it (shucks).
Got to Rome yesterday around 2:00pm, and after what seemed like million years in the blazing hot Rome airport, we loaded onto a bus for a three hour bus ride to Siena. We are currently staying at the Hotel Vico Alto on the outside of Siena. We got here yesterday around 8:30 and had a lovely, simple dinner of Pasta and Salad (well, at least, that's what I ate. I think everyone else ate Turkey). We were assigned rooms and I have two great roommates named Stefanie, who's in my math class, and Caroline, who's from Montreal and is taking grade 12 photography. Jetlag made for a mostly sleepless night... but a shower and a cup of magnificent Italian coffee in the morning erased all memory of that.
We had our first class today. There are 9 kids taking math: Stefanie, Aidan, Danny, Jonathan, Mandy, Katie, Adelina, her brother Adam, and Myself. Mr. Alagurajah is hilarious and a great math teacher... When he's not teaching math, he's often blowing a whistle at some of the other students! Math is difficult because we have to stay in the hotel classroom, but luckily it was only a 4 hour class, very low key, with a break after 2 hours. So far it's all review, and very easy. Tomorrow, however, we also have an afternoon class. Grrrrr....
After lunch we all went into Siena by bus. We went into the downtown to shop and sitesee... we got a look at the Piazza del Campo before tomorrow's horse race (El Palio). Hopefully we'll get to attend that. The most amusing thing I saw today was a bunch of Italian boys playing soccer outside in a church courtyard... Imagine streethockey at a busy intersection with no streetsigns. Italian? Very. Will upload a video of this soon!
Took lots of pictures today that I have yet to upload. I bought 25 euros worth of stamps, so y'all should be recieving postcards real soon!
Love, Lizzie
