O wow the Perhentian islands are sooooo beautiful!! Arrived after a long journey from Penang by boat and then bus. After wading through the water with our backpacks to get to the beach we checked in to our bargain cabin (1pound50 each a night) The bathrooms where a little shack in the middle which where like a piece of corrugated iron and a shower head. The added features where the frogs that loved to sit in the shower with you, what a bonus. When we checked in we thought the owner was winding us up when he said they were leaving the island but he wasn't oops it was the end of Ramadan and virtually all the locals left the island. Everything was shut except one restaurant and bar and a shop during the day, so the first night we ate there surprise surprise!!! Day two the sun was shine yippee and we hit the beach after about 10 mins I was bored so borrowed a snorkel and mask and went looking for fishes. There is loads of wildlife here, there are a couple of eagles that live on the beach plus a monitor lizard (Not Sams bestest friend!! He scared her a little when we arrived) which likes it under our balcony. At night guess what we went to the only bar/restaurant again shocker! The next day I went off on a snorkelling trip and met some very funny people. Our guide was called Razor and he took us looking for Turtles first in our little boat, as soon as he caught sight of them we had to dive in as quick as possible and go after them. They are gorgeous but quite fast so we followed them around for a little bit and then went looking for sharks oo er!! we got to the reef were they were and went swimming Razor came with us and after 5 mins we found them, they were over a metre long which aint that big for a shark but it's big enough for we when i'm swimming next to them. Luckily they don't come too close but when they started swimming away Razor decided to grab my arm and chase after them and me been stupid swam faster (think I need my head testing). At lunch we all decided that due to Razors name been quite gladiator like we all needed impressive names I was named Storm other names that followed were Star, Sand, gekko then it all went a little mad and we had noodle, and ring pull very funny but i think you needed to be there! We had a game of volley ball we we got back but i'm not the best so gave up after a while plus it really hurts your hands. That night we got a big table on the bech and had a few drinks and a bit of a boogie on the bar, even Razor joined us all. The next day Sam left early morning for KL but I still hadn't got the beach bug out of my system so decided to stay another day. In the morning it poured it down and was thinking that staying was not such a good idea but it stopped after a while and noodle and Star came calling for me saying they we getting sea canoe's out, fantastic I thought until we had been going for 30mins and were only half way to the next beach where we were heading once we did arrive we did some more snorkelling. The reefs here and amazing and I saw Nemo i tried free diving down to him to say hello but he was a bit deep for me and I could only get down a few metres before running out of air we got told we could find turtles on this reef but I think they were hiding from us, did see some rays though. Getting back on to the cannoes was not so easy we couldn't take them to the beach because we would of hit the reef so we had to very graciously hauld our selve on to the cannoes while the others held them steddy it was not a pretty site and i am so glad there were no camera's around. Canoeing back to our beach was hard going by the time we got back my arms were like dead weights so we went to the bar (aint it the best remedy for everything?) another game of volleyball was started except this time i didn't even pretend to play. I then found out I had developed another name and was now know as "Liz from Leeds" as I walked on to the beach at night people I hadn't even met were greating me by "it's Liz from Leeds" it was another funny night and was a bit of a late one at five I decided bed was needed since I was catching the 7.30 boat oops!!
And thats where my fantastic stay on the Perhentians ended, after my 2 hours sleep I was back on to the boat (after wading in to the sea again) and on my way to main land.
