Hello everyone!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! I'm very excited that it's now crimbo week - we're now in Perth staying with friends (Will and Suze) and getting in the Christmas spirit - their house has a lovely Englishy feeling about it, and they have a decorated tree, so we can get in the mood now! Felt a bit too strange thinking about it when in SA or Mauritius - far too humid and foreign (not that i'm complaining about being there or anything!)
Will and Suze are being really welcoming and it's great to see them again, it's nice for Jimmy to have some male company, and me to have some girly company. Went for a drive around Perth today, had some lunch out, and had a dip in the sea at Freemantle - a bit more "refreshing" than in Mauritius, but great all the same - it's December and we're in the sea with no wetsuits!!! Then we bought a big fish which we're going to either BBQ or cook on xmas day, and we're making a xmas pud tomorrow! Poor Will has to work until xmas eve (tomorrow) so he's missing out on the daytime fun, but not much longer now.. After xmas we have plans to go camping for a few days down the coast, which will be brilliant.
The rest of our time in Mauritius was great, we got really into playing tennis, snorkelling, and lazing about! We spent a day at Nat and Dan's posh hotel, the day before their wedding, which was nice! Good to see how the other half live - but our whole travel budget could be easily blown in a fortnight if we stayed there! Got to do some free watersports too which was a bonus - Jimmy had a great time windsurfing and had no trouble picking it up again after a few years of not doing it - he really impressed everyone as it was a very windy day and he just took off! I had fun kayaking and trying not to get blown out to sea..
The wedding was Beautiful - the church was huge with a very light and bright atmosphere. Nat looked beautiful as ever, her dress was stunning. Then the reception was at a posh resort by the beach, so we had cocktails overlooking the beach, dinner at tables ON the beach, and a good boogie on the dancefloor under palm trees! Very exotic!!
We had a bit of an issue with our tickets not matching our itinerary so had to get to Jo'burg a night early in order to get them re-printed - this meant we had 1 night in a homely backpackers near the airport, then our pre-booked 1 night in a posh spa hotel in the suburbs of Jo'burg!! 4 star in SA is actually very cheap, relatively, so we thought we'd splash out - dont know why we felt the need to "spoil ourselves" during all this travelling - as if it's hard work or something!! But it was very nice, there was a great pool area and our room was a thatched room in the bush - and we got carted around in golf buggies as the place was so big and well-spaced. We (well, I) was very disappointed though, as the spa was fully booked the 2 days we were there - and i had so much pampering planned!! But i got over that, had a nice bath and swim, and made the most of the amazing hanging beds by the pool! We even went to the gym in the morning before breakfast... but then we did have a HUGE dinner out in the evening, where they come to your table with all sorts of interesting meats on huge skewers, and carve bits onto your plate! Any vegetarian would hate it, but it was fun trying kudu, crocodile, buffalo, ostritch etc!
So we made it through Jo'burg twice without getting mugged, robbed, killed, or losing our luggage, but then got to Perth and Jimmy's surfboard never arrived! Luckily our bags did though so we have clothes, and we are waiting for them to contact us and deliver his board asap, it should arrive on a plane very soon, apparently, but may go via Sydney so it's a bit of a waiting game. Poor Jimmy still hasn't actually surfed his own board - it was brought out to Mauritius by Dan's best man (as we flew there with BA who wont take boards) after he'd hired a board to surf a couple of times there, but then the surf dropped off by the time he got it. I'm hoping to hire a board (probably a pretty big one!) while here, and Suze will show me a nice Lizzie-proof beach break nearby - yippeee!
Sorry for those of you who got an email very similar to this...
Will upload some more pics today or tomorrow. There wont be any of Nat and Dan's wedding though i'm afraid as they requested us all not to broadcast them via the internet, although I'm sure those of you who know them will get a look at some point!
Loads of love and festive best wishes,
Liz and Jimmy x x x x x x x x x x
ps The pic of the kangaroo isn't one of our pics - I had to upload something from the library to represent Oz!
