Sunday I woke up to the sound of rain falling outside. It was lovely. I think I was much more excited about it than Jessie was :P I suppose it's kind of exotic for me, but not for the people of Sweden! Jessie said that actually the weather recently has been somewhat colder & rainier than Sweden would normally be this time of year, hence she is not very impressed! But it was kinda nice because we had no plans for the day except to take it easy & make our way into Stockholm.
We took the bus around midday & it takes about an hour or so to get into Stockholm from Nykoping where my flight came in. Turns out the rain is a little less pleasant when you're lugging a backpack through it in inappropriate Australian footwear…& it also kinda hampers your ability to see much of the scenery, although Jessie assures me that it's actually really beautiful when you can see! Because Stockholm's right on the coast of the Baltic Sea there are lots of small (sometimes interconnected) islands around the city, so there seems to be water everywhere you look. It actually takes about an hour of sailing time through the islands from leaving the coast of Stockholm to reach the open sea, because you have to sail through the Archipelago & there are SO many islands to pass along the way.
Jessie recently bought her own apartment & it's situated on one of these little islands & is just gorgeous - more beautiful Swedish interior decoration! Her kitchen is entirely Ikea & is a marvel of creative use of storage space. I love it! It's very cosy & I instantly feel like I'm at home, which is so nice after being on the road for so long. We take a walk down to the local grocery store to get some food for dinner & I am drenched by the time we return. Jessie made us the most amazing vegetarian lasagna for dinner, complete with side salad, & my body is very happy indeed :D
In the evening we chilled out on her incredibly comfy couch watching girly rom coms while the rain poured down outside. I heart Sweden :)
