Early on Monday morning I said goodbye to my lovely friend Helle & thanked her for a wonderful four days in Norway. She delivered me to the tram station & from there I caught the tram to the bus station, a bus to the airport (which was 2 hours away), a plane to Milan, a bus to Milan central station, & then the metro to my hostel for the night. Oi! What a long, LONG day. And no, I did not sleep, despite my optimistic prediction.
The hostel was…interesting. Not the best experience I've had, although, let's face it, I've had pretty damn good luck with hostels (warthog & creepy Italian guy excluded), so I guess I was bound to end up somewhere less than average sooner or later! Anyway, it's actually inside the grounds of a psychiatric hospital, in order to give patients the opportunity for work experience (so kinda like having a hostel on the ground at Graylands), which is kinda odd, but didn't bother me too much. But it was pretty quiet & a little bit eery…
I waited at the front desk for 20 minutes before anyone appeared to check me in, & when the guy showed me to my room he was sure to point out which were the "good showers". Yikes. I'm really glad he showed me which were the "good" ones, cause if that's "good" I don't even wanna know what the others were like…I was starving & exhausted but the restaurant that's normally open & attached to the hostel was closed that night so I had to venture out. It was a dodgy neighborhood & there were no restaurants in sight. What the!?? This is Italy! Can't I get a pizza or some pasta anywhere?? But low & behold I came across the golden arches: McDonald's 700m down the highway. Definitely a low point in my European culinary adventures, but hey, sometimes you can't afford to be picky.
700m felt like 700km, & the 20 minutes (yes, 20 minutes) that I waited in line/for my food to be prepared/to find out that no they couldn't make that so could I order something else/for the girl at the counter to disappear without explanation for minutes at a time, felt like hours. I ate my food with glazed over look on my face & meandered home, trying not to fall asleep while standing up. When I DID get home I STILL couldn't sleep (damn overtiredness) & one of my room mates was kind enough to come and wake me up to ask me if I wanted to play cards with them downstairs. Um, no. Not really, thank you. I'm sleeping :l Well, trying to…
Never fear, things get much better soon…read on!
P.S. No photos from today cause there really wasn't anything worth photographing...
