So it was bye to the land where oranges are green, everyone is physically stunning, the shops are all signed in Arial Black in betwen two CocaCola labels and where you go through the 'Jambo, Mabo, Poa, Habari, Mzuri, Asante' speech every five minutes!...but turned out leaving wasn't actually as easy as you'd first think..
To make a long story short, and after goodness knows how much i spent on telephone calls to STA in England from the airport, when i changed the dates of my ticket way back in september they didn't 'revalidate' my e-ticket (whatever that means), and after balling my eyes out (dramatic i know!) and looking like a dork, 1 1/2 later STA basically jsut said i had to buy a new ticket... 400pounds later with half and hour to spare i did make it onto qatar airlines...not quite the goodbye i was counting on but interesting all the same! But just so you know, Qatar beats Ethiopian hands down-didn't have the mini screens but i can forgive them for that -everything else was awesome (and just to make some certain people happy- i'll say it wasn't as good as Emirates).
Ended up being insanely awake for entire flight so with all my geographical knowledge i was able to make the following discoveries....NOTE;these are all in the dead of night
1)Bahrain looks like those Kilaidoscopes you have when you're a kid and how some greeny/white glass has been scattered in patches with bright orange squiggly lights surrounding them with black nothingness inbetween.
2)Doha isn't as laid back as Bahrain-the glass is all arranged in geometric shapes with both greeny/white and orange lights with the odd flame (literal) here and there. Still don't understand what is in the black nothingness in the middle east...feel a trip may be necessary in daytime to make a more accurate geographical annalysis...
After being greeted with the knowledge my flight had been delayed i welcomed 8hours in the middle of the night at Doha airport-i've never seen anything so white (well at least for the last month anyway!).... and the guys in the white robes with the red hoops sitting on their head are real! Good people watching place- and tip, if you're a women, and you go into the 'quiet room' everyone will wake up and stare- only after my attempted nap did i realise i was the only women in there-whether that was a rule or not i'm still not sure- oops.
I'm now in Kuala lumpur and its Chinese New year!!! YAY!! (if i get to celebrate new years all over i'm not complaining!). Know i'm back in Asia because there is a 7/11 every 50m and there's that smell of exhaustfumes/sweetbread/humidity/samosas/grime all mixed everywhere (suprisingly though, i love it!). I will admit now- and i still don't understand my actions- my excuse i was in a zombie state- yesterday after i arrived at guesthouse i went to mcdonalds and bought a burger-i don't even like mcdonalds, i never buy it at home and disagree with the whole idea of it anyway yet my legs forced me to go-if anyone can explain this phenomenon please let me know.
Am off now for a little ponder and will try and resist buying numerous hello kitty useless gadgets which have seem to have taken over or at least are in direct competition with the gold waving cats...
