26/11/7-27/11/07 Fraser Island

Took a break from driving to have a holiday on Fraser Island. We did a two day 4wd bus tour. The first day we got picked up from Rainbow beach and got a barge over to the island.

Drove up part of 70 mile beach, as it was high tide and the bus driver had to dodge the waves. We went to lake wabby for a swim (the dark green lake) after trekking over the sand hills. Saw the rusty hulk of the Maheno shipwreck on the beach, it isn't in the best shape, as was used by the army for target practice.

Then up to Indian head for good sea views and shark spotting. Floated down crystal clear Eli creek before heading back to the resort for the night. We stayed at Eurong resort, not really a resort, but it had a pool. We stayed in dorm style accomdation with two swiss girls, unfortunately they weren't volley ball players.

Second day went for a bit of a rain forest walk which was surprising as we didn't think that there woud be large trees on the island. Also went to beautiful lake Mckenzie for a swim, crystal clear water and white sand beach. While on the beach a dingo came through to check us out and scavenge for food.

On our way back down the beach to the barge we saw two dingo pups, apparently a rare sight.

Highly recommend a visit, especially to lake mckenzie.
