So, its our last day in Australia today! All looking forward to moving on toto new adventures in New Zealand! I reckon its going to be a lot more active, im already working myslef up to do a skydive that Jon has I HAVE to do.......ah!!!
Anyway, we arrived in Sydnet on thursday, after staying in Coff's Harbour for a night. We stayed there with Alice and Amy and got a cabin on campsite!Quite good fun, although Coff's didnt have that much to offer. Lauren and Amy were both ill, so Jon, Alice and I missioned down to the harbour, about a 3 km walk. Along the way we visited our favourite shop 'Jay-Jays' for yet more short and boardie shopping! We also discovered this great shop called Warehouse, it was like a giant G&T's that sold EVERYTHING! We decided to get a drink and some sweets and we set up home in the tv and sofa area and wathed the film Madagascar for about and hour!Very funny, and no-one bothered us, haha. The beach was completely empty, it seemed as though most other backpackers bypassed this stop! We had fun writing in the sand and having long jump competitons...its amazing what you find to do when your on a budget!
We caught the overnight bus to Sydney, ive learnt that you have to take as many towels and sarongs as you can find to make it a bareable nights sleep as the air-con is nasty! We got in at 6am, and wondered the streets on Sydney searching for our hostel. Lauren wasn't feeling good that day, so Jon and I went to explore the city and once again ended up shopping in 'Jay-Jays'..... watched some films in the hostel and went to bed as we were all pretty shattered. On friday Jon and I walked from Bondi beach round to Coogee bay, it took us a couple of hours and was along a really nice coastal path. At one point I lead us across some wicked rocks to avoid climbing a load of stairs, which was fun trying to dodge the waves and jump across them! Felt a bit like spider woman! Met up with Yvette from our Cambodia tour down on Oxford street which was nice, you can find a lot of backpacker bars doing cheap dinners....we seem to be living on chicken shnitchel at the moment! The bus's are really good in Sydney but they seem to attract some real weiro's, this one woman dressed in clothes that she had polka-dot pained herself had a massive go at Jon, saying stuff like 'Don't judge me on what im wearing', and he hadn't even said anything! Funny but freaky at the same time, we had a right giggle about her afterwards though!
On saturday our hostel organised a bbq on Coogee beach, it was a gorgeous day, and there were about 30 of us that caught the bus down for a really lush free bbq! Saturday night was Mardi Gras, it was a complete surprise to us....everywhere was packed and we were pleased we organised accomodation before coming to Sydney as everywhere was fully booked. We all went down to 'The Gaff', a backpacker pub on Oxford street for yet another free meal! The parade started at 7.30 and was still going at gone 10pm! Probably the best carnival i've ever seen, and the atmosphere was amazing. Apparently over half a million people come to see it, and Jon and I managed to squeeze up to the from barrier so we had a perfect view! Carried on at ' The Gaff' after the parade nded, and got in just in time for the hour of free wine and beer between 10 and 11pm, in Syndey it seems as they want to give everything away for free!haha.
Anyway, today we went to do the sights...the Opera House, Harbour bridge, Hyde park etc. Just need to get my washing done now so that when I see Jacalyn and Wennie in Auckland they won't mistake me for a tramp!
