little jen on a mission
have fallen off two things since i last wrote, one was a bike, the other i'll come to in a bit.
on monday i traveled to queenstown via haast (over the haast pass through the mountains) i think it rained. stopped for a bit in wanaka and decided to come back (hence the reason i'm here now) on way stopped off at kawara (i think thats right) bungy jump. first ever comercial bungy! didn't do that one, martin (the dutch one) did. me emma annabel, claire and annmarie (from teh bus) and martin aswell all bought tickets for the nevis bungy jump.
got to hostel and checked in. we were in a room with donacha and neil. all met up in bar as was neils last night. karioke!! under the psudonim of neils buck night us martin and niel serenaded the rest of the pub to bohemian rapsody. we rocked!!
here is the other thing i fell off.
next day got up late. then we set off.
first went up road to where we had to check in and get weighed (i weigh 62kg if anyones interested) then we sat and stewed for a bit before our bus was ready to take us out.
arrived and got harnessed up. then took a gondola to the pod suspended 134m above the valley/canyon floor.
in the pod they played rock music. ace.
if you want to see what its like there i didn't byt a dvd so tough. but...... if you watch the extras on the LOTR dvd (the bit where some of them go bungy jumping) you'll see it.
we went in weight order. they put theese straps around your ankles a little like blood preasure straps and then, in a bit.,you're invited to the other half of the pod, (the side with no wall) and are attached to the bungy and told to pull this cord on your second rebound to release your feet and put you into sitting position for the ride back up (ur winched up). then you are taklen to the edge (shuffleing like a penguin) they throw the bungy over. then you follow.
of our group annabel went first, but she couldn't unsdo her foot thingy (it got caught on her boot) so she was winched up like a dead fish, hanging upside down. highly amusing, even she thought so and came up with a grim on her face.
annmarrie was so scared she wouln't let go of teh guy leading her to teh edge! emma refused to look down (very wise) and had to be told when her toes were over teh edge.
i went second to last (of our group, there were about 20 people waiting in teh pod)
before, when having my legs tied and all i was fine, excited even. but then they took me to the edge, and i looked down. i have never been so scarred in my life. it parralyses you, the ground is so far away! honestly the only thing that got me over the edge was the thought that God wouldn't let me die yet. i jumped.
the first two seconds are terrifying.
then, i realise i've used this word a lot in my jopurnal but i can't think of any better.its beautiful. you're soaring through the air, the wind in your face, arms outstreched. its the second best fealing ive ever had (next to the God) its not violent or sudden, its not mad adrenalin. its almost peacful. your feal....full. its in a beautiful setting, and, once in sitting position, you can look around you and marvel at it. God was so close.
I want to go again!!
afterwards we got a fergburger. NOT like a mcdonalds but a proper uber burger. yum!
that night we got 11/25 on the pub quizz.
yesterday we left the stray group. is kinda odd not seeing them anymore.
got bus to wanaka, and as the internet and some telephones had gone down on for the bottom of the south island, we didn't know where we were going to stay. anyway we'r at teh YHA gostel, wheich is really nice.
that afertnoon (after a lunch of chocolate spread and bannana sandwiches) we hired some bikes and went found the lake to Alfred town (i think) where we got an icecream, then took teh highway back to wanaka. (highway is only two lanes and really not that much traffic) don't worry, didn't fall off there.
was on the track by the lakes outlet river. my bike ended very neatly upsidedown in the bushes by the track and me down the ditch. apart from a few scrapes i'm fine. they add to my colection!
now have some on my thumb from the rocks on the island we were exloreing in the abel tasman, some on my knukle from when i slipped on the glacier, and now some on my elbow, knee and a little scratch on my right check from my sunglasses. is all good!
today were going to go for a walk but spent rather longer than expected lost in a maze at a place called puzzle world, so walked back and cooked tea of homemade tomatoe source and pasta (6 tomatoes chopped and covered in boiling water, stir and simmer until source-like then add some herbs and soft cheese. very good)
we're going back to queens town tomorrow and on saturday to christchurch.
this evening we're going to the cinema where you sit on loungers and can but homemade cookies and icecream in the interval. (only going for the cookies)
weather is getting warmer the apples trees have blossom on them.
love you all!
God Bless
jen
