well today was the day i spent surrounded by lots of blue and white cold stuff. spectacular. also have just eaten a plate scrumptious plate of fish and chips for $10 (thats about 3 pounds)
i'm doing good.
got up too early for ease and boiled some eggs readt for lunch on fox glacier. it was about a 45 min walk to the front cliff like end of the ice (incidently our guide was called cliff) that walk felt a lot longer on teh way back as was bursting for teh toilet. anyway, we had theese talon things (crampons) and set off up some steps cut into teh ice. our guide weilded a pick axe and was continually recutting areas and making new paths for us.
we were aslso given our own little pick axes which proved very useful for writing out names in teh ice.....
we climbed up pretty high and wandered around seemingly in circles as our guide had fun finding routes through teh icey maze. we went through some really thin crakcs all a beautiful blue. almost got stuck though.
tiring but very fun. and it didn't rain!! woot!
well, thats what i did today.
how are all of you?
realise have not said much about my thoughts on NZ, though i think i have forgotten most of them.
food: think cheeper. found some apples which tated like granny smith and had a label on them saying granny smith but they were bigger than any apples i'd ever seen. prper two handers!! also found some brussel sproats as big as my fist (almost). on the other hand brocoli is a bit weedy. they have a hinz equivalent which doesn't taste as nice, yesterday we had heinz bean!! man, i'd missed them. cooking is basically a cobbled together mix f whatever we have and our own inginuiity. taste good.
for any who may be interested in such things i have to report that i have not seen a single chav. not one. it could be that they're all at school................
waether: not so cold nor as wet as expected. can almost just wear a t shirt if willing to get goosebumps. apparently in franz josef they get 8m of rain a year. yikes.
tv. they are tealing all of our prgrams!!! at the moment the box is playing NZ pop idol. i've seen adverts for the dragons den, and their version of teh apprentice is just getting started. last night watched daddy daycare. he he.
the people are freindly and cheerful. drivers let you cross teh road. in the street people don't walk around as if afrain teh sky is about to fall on their heads.
time. time seems to be going really slwly. it feels like an age since i left. maybe its cos we do so much. i dunno.....
am getting to know the folk on our bus better now. even know their names!!!! (neil pascal martin annamaria adel donacah claire and our driver is gerard) tommorrow we go to lake wanaka then queens town. we may leave the bus at wanaka. and catch the next one to queenstown though not sure........
terrain is, well, watch lord of the rings.
(though if want an idea of the pastures of teh north island picture the rolling hills of teh chalk downs, got that in your head? now raise the mounds a bit, with steeper sides. add some sheep. maybe a bit f scree. a tree or two. some fencing. very green grass.......and there you have it! apparently the whole of it use to be covered in humungous forests.)
if think of anymore will add them......
Love you all!
God Bless
jen
ps. my pleasure pete.
