Hi Everyone,
I am gradually getting my head around doing this website - as you can see I have updated my piccies of Hong Kong and I will try to do more regular updates now I am in New Zealand.
On 4th September (whilst still in Hong Kong) Celia gave a grand tour of Kowloon, so I could explore various markets and shops. We took the underground from Causeway Bay (there underground system is so much better than the UK - its clean and has air conditioning) to Mong Kay (I hope that right as I havent actually got my Travel guide to hand). This is where the ladies market is located.
However, prior to touring the ladies market, we had chinese tea (I was boring and had black tea) with pearls. I was hoping they would be real peals, however there were balls of carborhdrates, which when eaten were very chewy. Celia had wheat germ in her tea, but I was not that adventurous.
The ladies market, I have to say, was slightly disappointing. I was hoping there would be lots of lovely clothes etc, but it was just like any normal market. However I did manage to buy some things, and with help from Celia got some good bargins.
Next we head to the Jade Market, which again wasnt as good as I was hoping. There were thousand of beaded bracelets and necklaces - so were ok others not so great. I had to admit that Jade was not really my taste, and Celia informed me that it was like more but the older generation in Hong Kong.
We then had dinner in at the spagetti House in Jordon, Kowloon. I was grateful at this point for some tradtional european food - pasta, pizza. It was also reasonable in price and a great escape from the heat.
Temple market, was very similar to the ladies market but in the evening. The items sold were also very similar to Ladies market.
In the evening we went to see the lightshow of Hong Kong Island (Central). We watched this from Kowloon Harbour side, which was best view point. This was also a very romantic view (like the peak). The light show started at 8 and lasted for 15 min. It was good, but again was not as good as I hoped. I have tried to take a video, but it does really have much impact.
The ferry between Kowloon and Hong Kong central is run by Star ferry and is only 2.20 HKD and also gave good views of Hong Kong harbour.
5th September 2007 - This was my morning before leaving Hong Kong. I spent time in Hong Kong Island. I visited the Exhibition centre at Wan Chai. I then took my bag to Airport Express. They have a checkin service, which meant I was bag free so I could explore Hong Kong Central. Hong Kong Island Central is very much like Carnary Wharf but on a larger scale.
Flying to New Zealand was ok, I left at 18:00. However by the time I got to sleep they were announcing it was breakfast time (due to the 4 hours time difference). Once landing in Auckland, I took internal flight to Christchurch. This was the worst flight thoughout my trip. The pressure in my ears and head hurt from taking off to landing, which I hadnt really experienced in the long haul flight.
Getting to Christchurch was easy - just one bus trip. It is cold here at the moment (7 0c) which was a shock to my body after being in Hong Kong. I am going out to buy a jacket today. Well I am off to have a look around now - so I will keep you updated.
Lots of love
Helen
