Hey all, hope you all had a fabulous christmas and wonderul new years eve!!!
Right... we landed at a very (youll be glad to know ) grey and dull Melbourne on Wednesday after jetting away from the very hot and blue skied Ayres Rock! Melbourne, we think similar to: Sheffield, was ok, but with it being grey and dull we wanted out of there. Thankfully we were picking up our campervan the very next day to head out to the coastal drive from Lakes Entrance to Sydney.
We found out that we were picking up the campervan from a place next door to the Airport... which obviously was very close to us landing in Melbourne on the wednesday, but unluckily we had booked a nights accommodation MILES away from both, so after paying a heavy taxi fare to get to the accommodation on the wednesday evening and then back again on the thursday morning we were happy to see the campervan! It was SO kitted out, it had everything (but obviously it wasnt as good as the VW camper :) we had previously had!)
It had double bed, fridge, cutley, plates etc, sink, Loo, shower... etc etc it even had a mirror! i was very pleased, because the plug socket was next to the mirror which meant i could dry my hair, and style it in some sort of fashion, after a shower... wowwieee!
we set off... i might add, without GPS... just Lissy Sat Nav "Joe, turn left, turn right... god damn it, it was that way!" LOL it was fun though. It took us ages to get out of Melbourne but once we were on our way, we were gowwwwne, faster than the wind could carry in more rain clouds!
our first stop would be Lakes Entrance... which im sure should be lovely, but it we were blessed with yet more grey dullness putting a lovely smile on lissys face... ( clears throat *cough *cough)
Anyway after arriving and settling into our first Big 4.com camp site we went for a wonder. The place was actually beautiful but after maximum speed winds on the coastal front we called it a day. Our next stops would include: Mermibula, Ulladulla, Batemans Bay, Nowra, Wollongong and then Sydney.
Batemans Bay was absolutely beautiful, we loved it, the sun came out and it was beautifully blue skied all day. The camp site we stayed at was new and swishy swoooooooo, and our camp spot was literally facing the beach. We were lucky! Lissy not so lucky because, it appears that most creatures, birds and all dont like her very much, as she was unfortunetly dive bombed by a few of what she calls "norman birds"... she wasnt dive bombed, as in pooed on, they actually really swooped at her, centimetres from her head... joe laughing in the distance :( the hero that he is :)
anyways enough of that... we noticed that lots of campers were decorated in christmas decorations so that evening we had a little walk around, we will load you the pictures, when we find a damn usb port :)
In Nowra there was a blow hole, which was awesome... the perfect opportunity for giddiness and lots of "wow, that was bigger" moments :)
Wollongong beach was very windy but we really enjoyed lounging around looking at the beautiful blue sea and that evening we were spoilt because we found our first Inidian resturant, so we treated ourselves! it turned out as well that the owner of the resturant was actually from scotland, but made the wize decision to move out to Oz permantly to escape the cold dull weather :) he was really nice and chatted to us for ages about how Ozzy cities are not disimilar to the English ones... apparently Perth = Manchester, Melbourne = Grimsby, Sydney = Cornwall :)
We would like to tell you how un-stressful it was getting from Wollongong to Sydney city centre in the campervan and how one way sytems make everything easier and how driving a merc sprinter van in a place similar to London is just easy peasey... cough cough again. We found our hotel and half an hour to unload everything and then get back on the road to drop the van off. EASY.
After much mardiness and a few strops we did it!
1200KM = 800miles later, sydney, hotel room, 23rd december... we were knackered but loved the adventure!
