Wednesday 20th January.
Kirsty's alarm had gone off at 07:30 and she had gone out to call her boyfriend like every morning. So I rolled over and lay trying to decide whether to get up or not. Then, I was out the van faster than Usain bolt, because above me on the window was a massive spider! Now I don't like spiders, but when I'm at home I do get brave enough to get close and kill them. There was absolutely no chance I was going near this big thing. I stood outside the van in my pjs and wondered how i would rescue all my clothes which it was by now heading for. Kirsty came back and she refused to get in the van and find it, so asked a local man who was walking by. He couldn't find it at first but when we did he squashed it against the window for us; both still squealing. The people in the camper van next to us were twitching the curtains and realised we had probably woke half the site up. Oops. Spider drama over, we were both still on edge about getting back in the van but grabbed our things and went out for the morning walk we had planned. We could see the lighthouse from the beach next to us but had been told about how you can take a long walk over to see it. We were told it would take 90 minutes there and back, which was a huge lie and it took us 3 hours. We set off about 08:45 so it wasn't too hot when we left. The beaches were really pretty and there were surprisingly a lot of people in the sea already. No one warned us how much of a hike it was, so we just had flip flops on and brought no snacks. It was quite high and a lot of stairs, but had great views and I spotted turtles and Dolphins from the lighthouse. We got to a sign which told us we had come to the most eastern point of mainland Australia, which overlooked the ocean. After a strenuous walk to the top we made our way back down the other side and back to the camp site for lunch. I spent another afternoon lying around reading my book and chilling out. The first two weeks had been non stop and the next few weeks would be the same. I grabbed a shower and met Kirsty briefly. She went off to a tarot reading so I waited across the road in Balcony Bar, just in time for happy hour again. It overlooks the Main Street so I was happy to people watch whilst I waited for her to join me. She wasn't long and we both sat and enjoyed a white wine and chatted about what her reading said. We went off to Woolworth's after for more food shopping then went back to eat and cracked open a cider. Kirsty left me to go and get changed and I was speaking to the family we met the other night about what they had been up to and they were asking about my surf lesson. When Kirsty was ready we went for a walk down to the beach, planning on sitting on having a drink listening to the street music, however we couldn't find any. We didn't stay long and ended up back at the camp site where there were plenty of people in the kitchen area chatting and drinking and most of them watching the tennis. We spent a couple of hours with them before we headed back to our van to snooze.
