Hey everyone,
Hope you´re all OK. Well, we left Santiago, headed back to Buenos Aires for 1 day and then flew to Florianopolis in the South of Brazil.
We had a really nice last day in Buenos Aires although it rained. Was really sad to leave though. I´ve left Buenos Aires so many times and always gone back so it was very weird knowin that was it!!! OK, OK, I admit...we did sing Don´t cry for me Argentina when we were getting on the plane! :-)
We arrived in Florianopolis around 1am and when we got to the hostel, turns out we were in an attic room. Was very funny. We climbed up about a million stairs and it literally was...an attic. The guy who worked there took us up and it had a really low ceiling and 2 mattresses put down. We had a sea view but not throuh the window, throuh the cracks in the side of the building. The little guy that worked there said, "normally, we charge 35 reals but I will charge you 30 because...you have no bed!!!" Luckily, even though it was 1am and we´d not slept in a proper bed for ages due to numerous overnight buses.....we still saw the funny side. When we woke up , it was literally like a furnace in there. It was sooo ridiculous!!!!! Fortunately, we only slept in there one night and then we were moved to a "proper" room!!
Anyway, Florianopolis is so beautiful. Beautiful beaches and loads of them. It´s a real surfy town and all of the buses have places at the back to put your surf board. You just get off the bus and choose a beach, there are so many.
The sea is so clear and it is really pretty. The view from our room is amazing!! Our hostel is cool too and has a cosy area with a huge tv and dvd player. To top things off, last night we got to watch Anchorman! It was the weirdest thing ever. We asked the guy who works there if there was any chance he could rent anchcorman for tonight as it was our last night and he said, "it´s starting on tv in 2 minutes". We´ve all had a ridiculous cravin to watch it and have been quoting from it none stop so it was really nice to watch it all together. The crazy barman even let Becky behind the bar to make Capiroska´s. We later went down to the beach to watch a band that were playing. Was a really nice, chilled evening.
Minor incident yesterday, we were on the beach and the smell of seafood from the nearby restaurants was overwhelming. We decided to go and have lunch. Well, when the bill came it turns out we had exactly the right amount of money and no more ie: none left for the bus. Oops. So, we decided to try and get a taxi but turns out no taxis run that way. We ended up walking for about 2 hours and would have had another hour to walk had we not run into a guy who worked at the hostel who leant us the bus fare. Ha ha, slightly embaressin but hey, the shrimp risotto was worth it...hee hee.
Oh one last bit of useless information, yesterday we went to Joaquina beach for the day which is beautiful and surrounded by sand dunes. Anyway, it is also the beach where they hold the Brazillian leg of the pro surf tour and the beach where Kelle Slater won his 7th world title!
Tonight we´re oing out for dinner as it is kind of my last night in South America. I don´t leave until Tuesday but tomorrow night we will be on an overnight bus back to Rio so it doesn´t really count.
Cannot believe that this time next week, i´ll be home. Seems very weird and i´m trying to mentally prepare myself for the sub zero temperatures.
Right, better sign off but speak soon, or should I say, see you all soon,
Lisa
