Hola Amigos,
Hope everyone is OK.
Well, last time I wrote was just after New Year I think. On the 2nd, we got a 3 hour bus up to Buzios, just north of Rio. Buzios is gorgeous. Little cobbled streets, amazing designer shops (for window shopping of course) and nice beaches too. Only problem was....the weather.
We left Rio in the rain and it rained ALL the way to Buzios. It rained for the first 2 days solid that we were there. Nightmare and we weren´t very motivated to leave the hostel. Especially with all those Portugese soaps on TV.
Eventually it stopped raining and we went for a wander. Can´t believe how big the town is. Kind of expected it to be like Ilha Grande which is really tropical but it is far from it. Lovely though. We also found a beach nearby and chilled for a while. The water was freezing of course but apart from that, really nice. We stayed on the beach until we got covered by a huge wave and my bag nearly floated off to Argentina. After that, we decided to call it quits. That night, we went to a really nice bar overlooking the sea. Shell had her first Caipriniha and hated it. We would so never make Brazillians. We were sat at the bar though so everytime the bar men made a cocktail and there was some left over, they gave it to us!!
Next day we walked to some further beaches which were lovely and just sat reading by the sea. We had lunch in a really nice restaurant and then headed back to catch the bus back to Rio. We arrived in Rio about 9pm. Shell was bored of Brazillian buffets so I took her to Banana Jacks for diner which is a TGI Friday´s/Frankie and Benny´s type place so she could have ribs and chips. She was very happy with that!
Sunday, we spent the morning on Ipanema Beach then headed back to the hostel to wait for Becky and Sheila to arrive. They are on a round the world trip and should have been going home but added Brazil on so that we could meet up. Was so nice to see them. They´d just flown in after a week in New York so they were pretty excited to see the sun. Was nice catching up with them and hearing about their travels so far and surprise surprise....first thing we did was get food. Having come from New York they have become slightly food obsessed and I always was so we make a good team.
Yesterday the girls were still pretty jet lagged so we didn´t get out until about 2pm. Went for "breakfast" then hit the beach. We then walked to Copacabana beach and sunbathed there for a while. (My first time sunbathing on Copacabana since I arrived in Rio). Last night, we went for an amazing buffet nearby. 6 pounds for all the food you can eat. Salad, pasta , rice, fish etc. Then.....you get given a disc, red on one side, green on the other. Red means no more meat, green means bring me more meat. Oh my word........we kind of got our moneys worth. Waiters just constantly come round with meat on huge skewers and carve it on to your plate. It´s amazing and we were stuffed. We danced it all of though at a Samba place in Lapa which had a live band playing.
Today i´m billy no mates as they have all gone on a city tour to the Christ the redeemer statue etc. I´ve already done all that so i´m all on my own. Might head to the beach in a while. I only need my book and Ipod for company.
Also, i´ve added some more pics including the Amazon.
Poo - hope you´ve settled back in OK. I miss you!! :-( I haven´t laughed so much EVER as in the 3 weeks we were together. Sprite sem gas, Domingo missing the bus and all that. Plus our favourite day on Ilha Grande - fun times, fun times!
Well, hope everyone is OK. Miss you all loads
