Bangkok, bright pink taxis, tuk tuks, the occasional lady boy and street food sellers at every junction! It doesn't take long after reaching the hotel before Madison remembers there's a pool, a roof top pool and quickly changes into her bikini, as far as she's concerned the holiday has begun and she'd happily stay here for the next few weeks! A little coercing to get her out of the pool and we're off to try some authentic thai food and a long hot and humid walk to the nearest park. After leaving the cold manchester weather it's hard to imagine we could actually complain its too hot but it is. We see the day through and despite not sleeping for over 24 hours manage to end the night at 9pm!
The next day Ashley and I hit the gym while Madison swims, its a hot run on the treadmill but who cares, we're in Bangkok! We spend the morning navigating the sky train, an amazing ride along the Chaporaya river and the mandatory stops at numerous Wats and sights. We finish the day with cocktails and a game of pool. What we now realise is our apartment is in a hub of activity, as the night goes on the street becomes lined with classic Volkswagen camper vans converted into mini bars, strobe lighting, the works, these guys simply pull up, set up their table and chairs and there you have it, a mobile night club! We like it that much we've booked our final two nights at the same hotel.
The following day, our last day in Bangkok (for now) means a taxi ride to hulompolong station to deposit our bags (sleeper train isn't until 19.35) then off to the Kho San Road. What looked like a simple journey to get to Kho San Road turns into our first tuk tuk ride and us chartering a rather expensive but truly amazing long tail boat along the river! The Kho San Road was everything I imagined it to be, funky eateries, tattooists, chilled bars and rather a lot of harem trousers! After eating we sit and watch the world go by over a number of beers before a rather thrilling (but mad in hindsight) trip back to the station.
We're in carriage 2, the last one along the long platform, I think we all felt a little anxious but relieved when we get to our carriage, armed with food and drinks for the journey and realise this is going to be a memorable experience!
