On Friday the 31th of May, I went with the clinic for measles injection into the field. Because it was a campaign, we only gave Measles injections and we went to visit several villages. But because someone called us not to go to one of the villages really far, we went to Yabello in the Afternoon. From Yabello Market, somewhere where we did some shopping, the driver left us and Sr. Annie drove all the way home to Dhadim. That was nice.
In one of the village, there were preparations for a names giving feast. So they had some feast activities already. It was a Guji-tribe village, so not a Borana-tribe. They were not supported by ENGO's (Organizations which provide mostly Food and Oil, also sometimes now days teaching programs) and they were surprisingly rich. Richer than all the other villages I visited. They gave us some soft drinks (quite expensive) and they told us that if we wait some time, they would kill and of course also roast a goat for us. But we refused and went on with our work.
In the evening, all the people from Yabello came to our place and we slaughtered a goat and said good bye to Sr. Shirley, because she's going to travel on Saturday towards Addis Ababa to go to India for her three months holidays.
On that morning I slept really long because I was just tired. For lunch, I ate with Sr. Annie and two from the clinic staff, because Sr. Ancia and Aster (The sisters cook) went together with Sr. Shirley up to Mojo. The rest of the day I did my laundry and read and in the evening I made salad again and Sr. Annie ate with us at the fathers' house.
On Sunday the second of June, Abba Boniface went to Haro Bake Church at 6 o'clock in the morning for Mass. Later he went to Jolcasa, but there was no one, so he came home to pick me up. Even while driving back to Haro Bake again, there was no one in Jolcasa Church, so we went on to the market (that is Haro Bake) to buy one goat and about 20 chicken. We put the chicken in the car and went back to meet with some people from Yabello, Sr. Annie and Abba Anthony to eat some meat for lunch. We drove back in our nice smelling and noisy car, the smell because of the chicken.
In the evening, Sr. Ancia, Aster and some guests from Yabello came, so as soon as Warqe (the fathers' cook) and I were back in Dhadim, we started cooking.
On Monday, there was Kindergarten again and because Sr. Ancia was cooking the whole morning already for even some further guests than we already hosted, I taught the children on my own. The children had to be quite, because there was a meeting in the same compound, so I decided to show them a movie. But halfway the movie, the solar power was finished, so I had to take the children out to the soccer field, where I played games the whole time. It was exhausting because I was all alone and they were quite wild.
But then in the afternoon, I went to do my laundry again and in the evening, we went to the clinic, because there was a man brought in who was hit in the back by a girl. In the beginning we thought he was paralyzed, so we sent him further to yabello or even further away. Some days later I heard that the man was not paralyzed, it was just the shock but I'm not sure if that's true.
On the 4th of June, there was kindergarten like always and in the afternoon I just read mostly. In the early morning hours, before I got up myself, Boniface started his journey to Addis Ababa to pick some guests for kilimppes Ordination.
On the next Wednesday was my last day in the kindergarten. After the break we distributed some tea and biscuits and later a Picture of every single child. They really liked it and I heard even the following days that they hung it up in their houses. The kids were quite sad that I went and myself too. Even all the kids came to the kindergarten, even some of the children which were not regularly or not at all coming anymore, that was extremely nice.
The next day, the 6th of June, I went for the last time to the field with Sr. Annie for vaccinations. It was again a village somewhere in the Guji-Land. In total, there were 95 persons, 25 of them were pregnant woman, which got always only one vaccination. But the children got up to 6, but mostly 4 vaccinations. I prepared the vaccinations and wrote down the list and Sr. Annie gave them. Late in the evening after 7 we came home, where Abba Boniface and some visitors already waited for us.
Then I saw Abba Boniface's car. The whole front window was broken. He told me that there was a big truck coming really fast and that a running stone hit the window. It was a big stone and there was a whole in the window, so it was really dangerous to drive.
The guests which Abba Boniface brought were Abba Kenneth and Abba Pieter-Sixtus from Nigeria. They both worked in Borana land and know Sylvia, the cousin of my mother.
On Friday the 7th of June there were a lot of preparations for the Ordination of Abba Kilimppe going on. All the Sisters besides Sr. Annie went to help in Yabello and I started cooking with Aster and Warqe right after lunch, but we still had to hurry, because we had to cook for about 15 people. By the way, since a couple of days we had fresh salad every day, which is extremely nice.
Saturday was the big day. At 10 o'clock the ordination started. It was outside and there were quite a number of people. It was really a nice celebration and after that, we ate some rice, injera and meat sauces.
I had to go quite early back to cook for all our guests again.
On Sunday, the 9th of June at 9 o'clock the Thanksgiving Mass or also First Mass of Abba Kilimpe started in the Church in Yabello. After Mass we drove to the house of Kilimpe's Parents for Lunch. In the evening, the people of Yabello and a lot of children were invited to eat with us. We slaughtered a goat again, because it was my last evening in Dhadim.
In the morning on Monday we started driving towards Awasa. In Dilla we stopped to buy 7 kilo of green coffee beans. After Lunch in Dhadim we first fixed our front window. It took us only 20 minutes. First, someone already brought a new front window to Yabello where a Mechanic put it in, but it broke while putting it in because the mechanic was not careful enough. So we did it again in Awassa. Then we drove to the market to purchase some things for my mother mostly and went straight on to Fullasa, where there was a lot of rain on our way. We reached and in the end even stayed for dinner. It was really a nice evening.
The next day we proceeded to Addis Ababa. We stopped once more in Mojo, to eat lunch and greet the sisters there and arrived somewhere towards the evening in Addis. I went to search for a hotel with two priest for them, because there was no room anymore in the mission house for them. There I also ate and Boniface got sick in during the day, so I looked after him the whole evening.
After a short night I went to the city to purchase some more things on Wednesday, the 12th of June. After that I packed really sad everything in my bags and spent my last hours with Boniface in Ethiopia. In the evening we went for dinner and then they brought me to the airport where I found out that I had luggage of 44kg. But it was ok.
After a short stop in Sudan, we went on to Frankfurt during the night. During the whole flight I slept about 1.5 hours.
In Frankfurt I waited for my next flight. After landing I found my father and we stepped in our small car to drive home.
It was a really nice experience and now, the 26th of June, I'm still trying to find myself in this world back in Europe. I miss Africa and I will go back there for sure.
