In the morning I went to Yabello. I didn't do much more that day, it was really hot outside and I was quite tired.
That day, there was a woman coming to invite me to her house. There is a story with that woman; she had some wood in her garden, quite expensive wood. It costs two birr per stick and is for building I guess. So someone stole that wood out of her property and sold it, half to Abba Boniface and half to Abba Anthony. She didn't want the wood back or money or whatever as far as I know at least, but she wanted to catch and talk with the robbers. But they never found them again.
On Wednesday I went in the field again. There were a lot of women, around 80. That was amazing, but also tiring. Sr. Annie and I went first seeing the church, it was nicely new build and painted, but they didn't clean it up at the end.
And then we went to see the school. This also was locked. But we could stare through the windows and inside, there was a lot of paper sheets and dust on the ground. They do not clean up and after school holidays they are going to get teached in that mess. But as far as I know, it is luck when the teacher comes and when there is class at all.
After that we went to eat our lunch, because it was time and then we finally started working.
I worked with Sr. Annie, we treated the pregnant women. That means we looked for how long they are pregnant already and their weight, blood pressure and if the baby has a heartbeat. Because they were all a little thin and probably they had not enough vitamins, we gave them some tablets. In the end we even had not enough tablets. But they were all happy that we treated them. But it was that we gave one women paracetamol because she had a headache and another one too because she had some pain in her stomach and suddenly others came, because they had a headache too or something like that, but I think they compared the tablets and found out that they didn't had the same. So we gave one of them some aspirin because she wanted something too, she said that she had a headache, but we didn't want to give her just some medicine because she found out that others had some more medicine.
It was the same with the babies, they got vaccinated and one of the mothers came with her baby and said the baby was coughing and had diarrhea, so we gave her some medicine for the baby, but the mother had to pay. Suddenly one after the other came and said the baby had pain in his eyes in the morning or pain in the ears, so we gave them some eye drops, but they all had to pay for the medicine.
In the end we drove back, but the road was really bad, in fact, there was no proper road, often we just drove through the bush and had to find our road. We went to Yabello because Aster was supposed to come back, but somehow she couldn't find the bus or something like that, in the end we just went home and someone else picked her up later.
By the way, it was less hot and I it rained in the evening, so the temperature went down a bit. When we went to that village called coccocatebu, we saw some baboons, actually quite a lot sitting along the road. But unluckily, I forgot my camera.
As we were eating in the evening, Sr. Shirley was called for an emergency in the clinic. So she went and when she came back, she told us that there was a man with fever. But he had fever for about two days already. It is often with the people that they think they can go to the clinic whenever they want and they expect to be threatened. So was there a woman once with a wound and before she went to the clinic, she did all her daily things during the day, so she called the sisters in the evening to treat her. But the sisters do not want it that way, so they often tell the people to come back in the evening.
On the 31 of January I felt tired and weak all day, so I didn't do anything. I walked a little bit around and played uno, but most of the time I was just lying on the couch and didn't do anything.
The following day, Boniface, Sister Ancia and I went to dubluc and docole, first to dubluc, there is Father Gerald and someone else stationed. While eating dinner we talked about the Christian community there and it is the fact that there are now Christians besides them two during the school holidays. When there is school, the students go to church. We went on to docole and actually, that village is in the middle of the bush. There wasn't a proper road, but we went only through the bush the whole time. On the way to docole and back we saw a lot of animals like dig digs and weird big birds. Boniface said they are very delicious. We saw also a lot of big and small butterflies, in every color and size. Docole itself was beautiful, it is on the foot of a mountain, it is quite green and in the compound and also around it there were a lot of nice and big trees, so there were a lot of nice shadow places. The compound, where no one stationed is, is directly at the foot of the mountain and I have to go back there to walk to the top.
On the way from Dubluc to Yabello I drove and the road was again very bad, there was no asphalt as in Switzerland or the Netherlands but the asphalt is full of holes and other obstacles. Sometimes, when they are working at the road, you have to drive besides the road on another road and that one is full of stones and holes, so the car is shacking the whole time. On our way to dubluc in the morning we even had a flat wheel, so Boniface had to change it. And during the whole driving, there was something wrong with the car, so Boniface was lying under the car quite often, but he didn't fix it, so he will have to go to the mechanic again. It is a spare but that is broken or something like that and he had just two weeks again that one changed, so there was a new one in it and now it is broken again.
In fact, cars are extremely necessary here, because without them the Fathers and Sisters can't move and do their work right like for example the clinic workers can't go into the village without clinic and medical help anymore. But the cars break down or have other problems quite often and they have to go to the mechanic really often. It costs a lot of money.
After that we went to pick up the two Swiss girls staying in Yabello to take them to Dhadim. They are working for their studies in university or something like that. The staid one night at our place.
The other people from Yabello came to around 9 o'clock and there was some mass, because of some Founder. I didn't quite know why. Boniface was giving mass; Anthony was just there also in front. Then there were Sebastian, he is a brother and Kilimpe, he will become priest in June. After Mass, the Fathers had a meeting and I showed Dhadim to the two Swiss girls. We went to the clinic and I told them more or less everything I still knew and after that we went to the kindergarten with the new playground. As we walked through the village, a lot of children followed us and there were a lot of people calling my name. I was able to speak with them, just greet them and asked how they are but the people liked it a lot. It is funny to talk to the people, I like it. Finally we went to see the school, but because of the holidays it wasn't that interesting. We just came back in time when the others finished the meeting and they went home again.
I didn't do much anymore, just talking with Abba Anthony and Abba Boniface and play UNO with them. In the evening, a man from Awassa came. As far as I know is he a good friend of the Fathers. We watched the game, but I didn't finish it because there didn't happen really much.
In the evening, a bird was flying against the wall on the veranda. Abba Anthony jumped and caught it, we made a few pictures while the others were holding it and then Abba let it go again. But unhappily, the dogs were waiting outside, so suddenly, Beauty caught it again and started eating it. Poor bird we just managed to save.
The next day was Sunday, so there was Mass in the morning again. The people dropped in one by one during the Mass and at the end, there were quite a number of people.
In the Afternoon, it started raining, but not much, the sun was still shining. We saw two rainbows, one above the other. And when it rained, it smelled wonderful again and because of the sun, it was still warm. But the rain wasn't that heavy and not long, during the whole time there were a lot of birds singing, actually I heard more than mostly during the day. I was sitting on the veranda watching the rain, listening to the birds and the kids.
I played a lot with Azarat and his friend Roba, we played cards and after that I took a shoe from Azarat and threw it to Roba, he threw it back to me again and we went on while Azarat was trying to catch it. Azarat is the son of one of our cooks; he is about 8 years old, just like Roba. He is leaving on Monday to Fulassa, because he is originally from there and he has to learn the language there and go to school there. In Fulassa, they speak Sidamignia, I don't know exactly how to spell it, but both of the kitchen girls speak it and they started teaching me a little, similar to Oromo.
Later I gave them some sweets and balloons. Actually, all the kids in this village love balloons and they are asking me whole the time to get them some, but mostly I don't give them any. And we played with Bubble soap or how ever that is called. They didn't know it, but they liked it a lot. I think I will go with Sister Ancia to the kindergarten and play with the kids with this bubble soap once.
In the evening, we watched the African cup of nations again, the quarter finals, Nigeria against cote d'ivro and Nigeria wan, so Abba Anthony was really happy and started dancing in the living room in front of the TV, because he is initially from Nigeria.

Laurens Hoi Lisa Dik diks sind Antilopen? Kannst du nicht jeden Tag mit einem kleinen Überschrift (z.B. Sunday February 3rd) anschreiben, damit wir uns besser zurecht finden? Ansonsten wieder tolle Erlebnisse
Fenna Hee Lisa! Leuk om je verhalen weer te lezen! Veel plezier nog, geniet ervan! Groetjes, Fenna.
Marlies Hoi Lisa, De tekst waarop ik reageerde was: It is often with the people that they think they can go to the clinic whenever they want and they expect to be threatened. “Threatened” betekent “bedreigd” en je bedoelt natuurlijk “treated”= behandeld. Komische vergissing dus! Verder alleen maar complimenten over je Engels! Groeten, Marlies
