Last day in Ecuador, and a travel day so fairly uneventful. The morning was spent (mostly by Suzanne!) packing 5 big bags, then we all went into town by taxi for a couple of dollars and visited the vivarium where the children all got to hold a boa!
Then after a bit of shopping and a grumpy dad brought about by kiddie pester (that's what I'm blaming it on anyway!) it was off to the airport for our flight to Lima. After a cinnabon everyone was happier, especially with another load of t-shirts, socks, pens and stuff... one minor disaster was losing our 2 remaining penknives as we'd inadvertently packed them in the hand luggage. They security guys were sympathetic but even Finn's tearful face couldn't sway them !
We arrived at 9 in the evening to a more modern airport and through the crowds of families seemingly awaiting long lost relatives (it was teeming with Peruvians!) our taxi escorted us to the hotel El Ducado. The streets seemed strange, all are high sided with barbed wire or just high walls, with the living taking place behind them. We'll find out more tomorrow, but it will be interesting to see the difference between our last two cities - Lima is definitely more modern - advertising, roads, signage, buildings, shops are all that bit more developed - and neon ! we are near the cliffs and the coast and a'beach' - but I have my reservations !
