Our memories are struggling, it's now 3 days later so today is a bit ofa blur -but this was the visit to Albatross land, the most taxing of all walks - which in reality meant no more than a few rocks to clamber over, but it was slightly more physical than the others - apparently a couple of older gents barely made it, and that may give you some idea of the 'cruise' fitness levels! We walked in between nests of albatrosses, boobies andother birds - gaviotas - and between them, the sea lions and the marine iguanas, occasionally it was hard to avoid stepping on them ! so the TV representation is true!
We also sat for a while near a big blow hole which painted a rainbow in the sky. Pretty cool.
Back on board we manage to achieve our moment on the bridge (I was sooo tempted to ask Scottie/Warf - you choose depending on your favourite series - to beam someone up. It was a bit of an anticlimax to see the very ordinary button clearly switched to 'autopilot' - and the steering wheel was also farily nondescript - but even so, we had our picture taken on the bridge and that'll do for us big kids!
The morning had been the longest walk in quite a heat, the kids were fairly done in but we still made it back for the afternoon where we landed at Santa Cruz (?) in the town. We had the choice of beach or shops so we decided on neither and had a beer and ice cream! Then of course it was easier to spend money on t-shirts and kids stuff. No major mementos though. We did manage a few minutes in the sea for a swim, and Finn had a wonderful close encounter with a sea lion who seemed to want to play with him. Late back, of course, so we piled in a taxi - they are mostly pickups over here, ideal for chucking kids in the back. One dollar felt about right for a 5 minute ride back to the harbour!
Then our Galapagos hikes were over, and we had to pack (we'd managed to spread very nicely across the two adjoining rooms!) and get everything ready for our return the next morning. Hijacking other passengers (children's) shoes must have gone down really well with their parents as everyone was in the same boat, but at least it kept the kids awake.
