Got the bus to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Went for dinner followed by a salsa club. The whole town was preparing for Monday as it was a national holiday in honour of the inauguration of the new president. On Monday I decided to check out the old town so went for a wander on my own. Not a huge amount to see as everything was covered up with flags and stages but the people were super friendly. In the afternoon, people started to flock to the main square wearing flags and chanting/singing. A few of us decided to head down there to see what was going on. Hilary Clinton was also in town but she must have forgotten we were coming as she didn't wait around to say hi. Anyway, there were flags everywhere and lots of pictures of Che Guevara which we all thought was a bit odd as Uruguay isn't communist! Apparently the government is fairly far left socialist and Che is seen as a symbol of socialism across Latin America. It was all very interesting anyway.
