Wow. Wow. Wow. To the power of 100! Today we went across the border to Argentina to see Iguacu Falls (Iguazu? Iguassu? Iguasu? So many spellings!). It was the single most spectacular thing I've ever seen in my life (to date anyway). It's rated as one of the new 7 wonders of the nature world and I can certainly see why. There are 275 falls along 2.7km of river. The highest fall is Devil's Throat which is 82m.
We started on a truck through the rainforest where there were giant spiders dangling down from the trees (aaaargh!). Arrived at the river and got onto a jet boat where we zipped along the river to the base of the falls - and went in! It was amazing. I tried to video it but had to close my eyes buy if you look on picasa you'll get the gist. As you'll see, I went a bit mad with the photo-taking but I just couldn't help it! The water was pounding down on top of us and everyone was screaming (with delight!). We then went under another fall which was equally as exciting and exhilarating. We walked up around the falls (luckily we hadn't changed into dry clothes as we got even wetter) and the whole thing just seemed to get better and better. We did a few trails which gave us different viewpoints of the falls. Just when we thought it couldn't possibly get any more impressive, we got a train up to the Devil's Throat which is the largest of the falls. You stand on a walkway literally above the falls. The amount of water is incredible - God only knows where it's all coming from! I was in awe of it all - just fantastic! I'm not sure I know enough superlatives to talk much more about Iguazu Falls but if you ever get the chance to go, don't miss it. Incredible.
