I had a very early start on the Saturday morning which was the first of many. Tasha kindly dropped me off for the bus at 6.30am and I said bye. I was sad to be leaving her and Sydney and had had a really nice time there. But the bus journey continued. We stopped off in Canberra which was apparently picked as the capital because Sydney and Melbourne were fighting over which should be picked as capital and this was somewhere in the middle. We had a tour around Parliament House which was a bit long-winded but nice to see. The flag at the top is as big as a bus!! Then we had some lunch on a picnic bench and got back on the bus.
We stopped off for the night in a ski resort without snow which was a bit surreal. It was an amazing place to stop though and really pretty. We made use of the jacuzzi which was lovely and the rooms were nice too, then we had free peach schnapps shots from a ski but it was quite an early night as we had to be up early again and had had a long day. The next morning we got up early, had some breakfast and started on a 3 hour hike up the mountain. First we got the chair lift which was really weird given we weren't skiing and there was no snow. But I didn't freak out at least. On our walk we saw some amazing views and then also saw a deadly funnel web spider. Luckily it was far enough away for us to be safe. We walked and saw the highest point in Australia which was quite cool.
Then we made our way back down again (pretty tired) and got back on the bus. We headed to Lakes Entrance, passing where the fires from last year had devastated the bush which was quite scary and there were some very windy roads but we made it to Lakes Entrance by sunset. We popped to the supermarket, grabbed a couple of drinks and then had a campfire by the beach, sang some songs and then headed back to the hostel in preparation for a 12 hour journey down to Melbourne the next day.
We were up for sunrise, had some breakfast and started the journey. We stopped off briefly in a place called Foster and then we stopped to see some wild kangaroos and also saw another deadly spider - Red Back spider. We saw emus too. Then we re-commenced our journey and went to Wilson's Promontory which was stunning. At this point my camera decided to stop working which I wasn't too happy about so I'm going to borrow/steal from the girls I was with. We did another walk up a rock which freaked me out a fair bit, it was very high but I stayed there and got a photo at least. Then we continued another 1hr or so walk, went and had some sandwiches by the beach and then walked back to the bus. The rest of the journey was pretty dull and tiring. We arrived in Melbourne last night and had some sushi in the city and a bit of a wander which was nice. It seems like a really nice city and it's a shame I don't have longer here.
This morning, we walked around the market and then I headed off on the Neighbours tour which was funny. The guide was very enthusiastic and told us all the inside gossip. I haven't watched it for a while but it was interesting to see. I got my photo taken with Karl Kennedy and got his autograph, saw Ramsey Street which was tiny and just got a few photos. It was quite interesting. Tonight, we're just going to see an outdoors film, get some food and have a couple of drinks.
I'll be in touch soon xxx
