If you haven´t heard from me for a while you may be wondering what this is all about. I am celebrating my recent liberation from the workplace with a trip to Central America (5 weeks) on my own and then to South America (5 more weeks) with Graham.
I´m not sure if I´ve got the hang of this blogging thing and please feel free to ignore, or email me to take you off my list. Otherwise you may - if all goes to plan - get occasional updates about my activities.
So thus far I have made it from London to Guatemala City and then on by bus to Quetzaltenango, usually known as Xela and pronounced Shay-la. The reason for this choice of destination being that Jos has been living here for the past year and it is nice to have a chance to catch up with the wandering daughter.
At the same time I am endeavouring to revive my very rusty Spanish by going to Spanish school for 5 hours a day. The tuition is one to one and we get a half hour break so as you can imagine it´s quite hard work so I hope I will see some benefit at the end of 4 weeks.
I am living with a Guatemalan family - Grizelda and Marvin and their sons Eric and Danny. The house is small but clean and the food is tasty. The plan is to see a bit of the local area, spend some time with Jos and her friends who thus far have seemed to very welcoming - one has already taken to calling me mama! And as you can imagine the whole idea of work now seems a vague memory.
That is all for my first attempt and best wishes to you all
Linda
