Sorry for long delay in adding to my holiday story. Graham and I met up in the airport at Buenos Aires and after some frantic repacking we left for Bariloche in the Argentinian Lake District. Looked more like Switzerland than south America and the winter ski season had ended and summer season about to start. We met up with our group of fellow travellers who are a congenial bunch, our driver/guide, a crazy and enthusiastic English guy called Rob, his right hand man Jose and our cook Ana Maria - so I do have a chance to keep up with a bit of my Spanish. We are travelling in a purpose built bus and sleeping in tents at campsiotes of varying degrees of comfort and services! Weather has been most things from snow, rain, wind and today beautiful sun
The first few days were spent around Bariloche and Pucon in Chile, with the opportunity to do lots of activities such as horse riding (yes. me on a horse), rafting, volcano climbing in snow (Graham, not me), trekking etc. Then we had few long hard days travelling to get down to the south of the country where we are now. The lowest point was a night in a ¨campsite¨ in a place called Bajo Caracoles which even Bruce Chatwin described as miserable. To make matters worse we were caught up in an Argentinian fuel strike so it looked like we might be going nowhere and even losing some of our holiday. However Rob is nothing if not resourceful and with lots of contacts and we are back on the road. Currently seeing some spectacular scenery -mountains, glaciers etc and getting out and about after too much sitting.
Sorry can´t do photos too but internet connection here is sparse and slow but hope to catch up with them soon.
