Lin & Phil - Out and About in the Big World...
Woke up at 04.00!! Couldn't sleep because of the noise outside so I got up. Started packing my bag. Had to make sure that we would be at the train station in time for our 06.00 train to Agra. At the train station lots of people tried to scam us. Two people said that we had to show them our tickets and pay for a stamp that "everyone had to have'. Luckily we bumped in to an American girl in the lat minute who reassured us that we didn't need an extra stamp. From now on, we will check everyone's ID to see if they have the authority to check our tickets.
We arrived at Agra at 08.00. Well there, we got greeted by an army of tuk-tuk and taxi drivers. Managed to get a prepaid taxi from a government governed both to our hotel Pawan. The hotel is ok but nothing else. The staff is very friendly though. It came recommended by the Lonely Planet so we though it was a safe bet.
Later on we decided to pay a visit to Agra fort. Outside the fort we got persuaded by a local guide to do a tour of the fort with him. He proved to be well worth the 200 rupees we paid him ( less than pounds, and that included a tip!!) He was absolutely awesome and explained everything in detail. The fort itself amazed me. Everyone talks about how beautiful the Taj Mahal is but Agra Fort is equally good by my opinion. It is like a fairy tale setting inside. Absolutely magical.
We still se lots of cows on the streets. We don't think it's strange anymore. It's like that with a lots of things over here. People don't always do or say what you'd expect them to over here. For example, I'm considered to be exotic here because of my white skin and blonde hair. Therefore I get people following me around and asking if I will be in a pictures with them. It's ok, we always have a laugh about it afterwards.
