Day 1
There were lots of drama and stress on the first day. Let's start at brisbane airport. I booked a return flight to and from buenos aires but the dates were more than 90 days apart, so the lady at the Virgin airline check-in counter requested some form of evidence that I won't be overstaying my 90 day visa in Argentina. I had to buy a bus or plane ticket from Argentina to somewhere to prove that. As a result, I frantically googled away on my laptop. I missed my original flight because I said I did not have enough time. But she was very nice and changed my flight to one that's half an hour later. So I had an extra half an hour to google. And did I google hard! Finally managed to find he cheapest bus ticket online which was from Bariloche (Argentina) to Vivaldia (Chile and I'm not even sure if that's spelt right). But I really hope that wasn't $40 down the drain because my itinerary isn't quite finalized.
So I showed her the ticket and she let me on the plane to Sydney.
Plane from Brisbane to Sydney had a screaming baby on there, and boy could he/she scream! Delightfully, a emirates aircraft had to do emergency landing so we were delayed almost an hour. I was sitting there worrying if I could make the connecting flight but eventually I fell asleep (after the baby got tired of crying).
We took off from Brisbane, and we landed in Sydney.
When we landed in Sydney, I went from domestic to international terminal by bus. To my surprise the bus took us outside of the airport but lucky there wasn't any nasty traffic or I would be very stressed about missing my plane I Buenos Aires! So it turned out that this plane was delayed too by about half hour and I would have made it anyway.
On the plane, a guy from Melbourne called Rob sat next to me and we started talking. He told me about his adventures of getting mugged in Mongolia while trying to ride to China on a horse with his friends to almost getting kidnapped in Malaysia when riding his scooter. The culprit in both stories seem to be riding something so maybe that's not a good thing to do when you travel. At least one needs to be more careful! Also he almost got attacked by bears in Canada when he worked in mining exploration. Talk about experiences!
And I shared my story of having to catching 4 cabs in Bangkok to get to my hotel in the middle of the night. Yes it was the result of:
Disorganization on my friend behalf
Taxi drivers trying to scam me
Idiotic taxi drivers with no direction sense
Any who, long story short, I'm now going to travel with Rob for a while.
I'm in Buenos Aires "sleeping" in a hostel room as we speak. I'm jet lagged, shouldn't have slept so much on the 14 hour plane ride!!!!
We explored a little bit of buenos aires before we went to bed. Checked out a bit of the hoodlums.
Anywho I will move onto something else to keep me entertained while the guy on the lower bunk continues to twitch at periodic intervals during his sleep while keeping me awake.
Another thing, I was planning to get my Brazil visa in Buenos Aires but I don't think that'll happen now because the next appointment at the consulate is 4 days from now. Probably will get it in La Paz instead. Read another blog and apparently it only takes a day.
The guy below me started snoring. Wonderful.
