Travel with Jen and Kate!
29th July
Very early start to the bottom of the inca trail and we stopped off on our way to buy any last minute essentails! We thought this to be a carved walking stick!! (Although they are far too big for our bags we still insist on taking them with us and hopefully bring back home!!)
The first day was nice and easy to get us in the mood. We had 6 porters(including a really cute 10 year old!) , a cook and a guide for our 4 day adventyre - how spoilt! We were in a group of 4 - the other 2 were on their honneymoon! (interesting idea?!). We had all our food cooked for us and our tents put up - luxury, except our tent didnt zip up!! Nights were cold but we had our layers! We had a rude awakening when a horse type creature tried to get into our tent!
30th July
This was the hardest day climbing up over 1200m up to dead womans pass. It was amaziing when we made it up there but bloody freezing at the top (4200m) so just a quick pic then off down 500 steps!
31st July
The longest day but really fun, we just wondered along admiring all the beautiful views. Lunch was had at 10.30am which confussed us a little but we did start at 6 each morning!
1st August
Up at 4 today in order to get a good start. We had to get to the sungate for sunrise in order to see the famus view of the sun rising over machu pichu. Unfortunately, it was incredibly cloudly and raining and foggy! We made it to the sungate but say white!! So dissappointing! We climbed down to the site of the machu pichu and was ablle to explore the magificant ruins. It did brighten up and we were soon able to admire in all its glory!
To relax we went to some hot spas in Aguas calientes town. We looked amaozing in our bikinis after 4 days days of no showers!! The spas were hot but the water little suspicious!
The inca trail was an incredible achievement and opne definately worth recommending.
Back to Cusco by train and bus - tonight we thought we would treat ourselfs to the typical dish....Guinea pig!! It came spilt in half (2 legs each!) and with the head on a plat in the middle! Kate got stuck in and reduced it to bones whilst i found it a litle tricky to find much meat! (Sorry to my guinea pigs Daisy and Dianna who rest in heaven not in anyones stomach!)
