After an eventful trip to the ferry (minor money problems (the island has no ATM and few places you can pay by card) and speedy runnings to make the ferry) the island was like a minature paradise - very few cars (we only saw a police car and a rubbish truck), and the only access to our hostel was walking along the beach. for the few days we were there the weather wasn't great but luckily it only poared at nights! we managed to get in a few walks, saw the old prison, walked to Brazil's most beautiful beach (where we only had 5 mins to swim in the sea before we had to catch the boat back!) and lay about in hammocks - it was wonderful! the people we met at the hostel were unbelievably nice and friendly, so we had many dinners out with them, had a great hostel party (THE place to be on a saturday night, all the locals were there!) and a great hungover day laying by the pool (ie a walled off section of sea!). we stayed for 4 nights then headed back to the real world to catch up with reality!
