On our arrival in Playa we bumped into a friend from Tulum at our hostel which was a highly pleasant surprise. We were also opposite Walmart, which was ideal for our shopping needs; be it for food, drink, or general fripperies (of which there were many).
It was sadly raining again that evening, so we sat around the hostel and met some really nice people (one of whom was English!), although we were also unfortunate enough to meet The Worst too - this Italian guy behaving like Borat and wearing his t-shirt - never cool... We decided we weren't going to let our spirits be dampened by the rain (just our bodies) so out we went to party with springbreakers! We dived into the first fun looking place, hair plastered to our faces, to find ourselves not the the most overdressed females there that night, but ever in the history of the club... It was a full house of mad, drunk Americans with zero inhibitions, so a hilarious night was definately on the cards!
On Monday we hit the beach with Lihi for a heavenly day. It was similiar to the beach at Tulum, just not quite as nice, and much busier with pumping bass and hi-rise visible on the horizon ( on a built up island apparently). Al went for a swim in the sea, and just as she was wading out, in her usual graceful style, a massive wave totaled her! She ended up upside down, bikini topless, completely full of sand while snorting with laughter, while this American girl (who had also been dumped on) merely tossed her hair and pretended nothing had happened - to 'cool' to laugh at herself evidently.
That evening we took drink making to the next level, whizzing up a pineapple with ice, sugar and coconut rum to make a delicious panty ripper (as they're called in Belize) before hitting the town again. On our way home, exhausted from dancing, we stopped at a quesadilla shop for a late night snack, and our friend got one with brains! Funny at the time, but I generally find food poisoning not to be a laughing matter...
Tuesday was another boiling beach day (our tans well on track by this point) and Lihi rented a deck chair, which incidentally came with a pervy Mexican too. Al invested in some electric light blue havaianas, giving me serious thongs envy looking down at my grubby yellow ones! We (sadly) left on Wednesday after a goodbye coffee with Lihi, and headed north to Cancun!
