San Diego was the most fun EVER. And all because of my amazing friend Shannon!!! Who seriously showed us the sites and more importantly introduced us to THE PEOPLE of S.D :) What was originally a 2 day stop turned into a 5 night mini holiday, and we literally did everything there is to do in the amazingggg city of San Diego. A brief overview of our frolics.....
WEDNESDAY- Arrived in San Diego and called Shannon from a random payphone, she originally thought I was some girl prank calling but just before she hung up on me she heard my "british accent" and thamkfully arranged when to meet us at her house. in the meantime we propped up the bar in some random irish bar. after a long sweaty walk in the 30 degree heat to her house she jumped on me screaming and it was so cool to be there with her! after a few more beers she drove us to their local farmers market which was soooooooo nice and had so many different food stalls it was beautiful! and we met her friend lauren and had some delicious burritos in a lovely little mexican place, accompanied by 2 pitchers of margaritas. americans also enjoy a casual bit of binge drinking it seems. thennnnnnn shannon took us to the beach to watch the seaworld fireworks before bed..
THURS- While shan was at work we had a stroll around town and bought a load of food to prepare a fit lunch before momma came home from work :) After eating, shan took us to La Jolla Cove where there are a s***load of seals just chilling out on the beach, surreal, they are sooo cute!! and as we were leaving we saw a sharkfin really close to where all the seals were, and some seals absolutely going crazy trying to get away from it but we fear one was eaten. and apparently the only sharks that eat seals there are great whites, so we wont be swimming there in future!! A few minutes later about 30 pelicans flew just over our heads too, casually haha.We then chilled in an All American bar with some cocktails and Mussel Chowder (bumting) and purchased a 1.75litre bottle of smirnoff for 15 dollars. God bless america! We then met shannons amazing gay neighbours who are 2 of the funniest guys i have ever met, loved them, more cocktails, and out to another bar for grilled cheese, fries and cider!
FRIDAY- Originally invited to hang out on a billionaires boat for the afternoon, we declined the offer as the pervy man had only invited girls onto it, ew. So instead we were invited to an ALL AMERICAN POOL PARTY and it was SOOOOOO MUCH FUN. like literally straight out of a film! bucket of beers, a surfboard inthe pool, bbq, underwater camera, some random game called Marco Polo (that i was appaling at) and SHANE MY FUTURE HUSBAND (visa purposes). Had a bonfire in the evening where all shans friends taught us how to make smores (BUM) which are these toasted marshmallows and chocolate between 2 sweet biccies mmmmmmmm. Tried Joose, Animal Fries, and met Trotsky and Nugget. One of the best days EVER! then a man walked into shannons at 3am and darren was so drunk he couldnt even remember the strange event in the morning.
SATURDAY- GAY PRIDE IN SAN DIEGO. one of the most exhilarating days of my life hahahah. the gays in SD are f***ing amazing I LOVE THEM ALL. it started in the morning and this meant waking up still drunk in homemade "brits love d*** " t-shirts and doing shots at 930am. the bars and clubs were all absolutely rammed at 1030 when we arrived downtown, one of the most insane gatherings i have ever witnessed. Gay Parade, floats, protein bars, meatballs and sausages in the shape of penises, and some of the fittest men i have ever seen EVER. by 12(pm) we were in a nightclub (or dayclub as the case may be) full of gyrating gays oh my lord it was a sight to behold. taxi back at 3pm for a well earned nap as heat exhaustion had set in. Later on we went back out for this thing called the Walkabout (no idea) but there was on the street bingo, and a s***load of free food (very happy). Shane got his face painted as a tiger. so good. then we sampled the world famous Tater Tot, and some dark ale that tasted like chocolate and headed to one of shannons friends houses for the afterPARTAYYY
SUNDAY- met shannons parents who were absolutely lovely. Again, seriously All-American! Packed all our stuff back at home and shannon had a class to go to so we were looked after by her wonderful friends Nick and Cera who took us to chill by the pool at the Lafayette Hotel, where Marily Monroe used to frequent. Met more jokers who loved our accent. Drank mojitos in a hot tub. LIFE IS SO HARD. Before we left, shannons boys gave me and dazzy presents of a bracelet and a ring, such lovely peeps, will never forget any of them. Last stop before mexico: In and Out Burger (upscale McDs) before mum dropped us off at the mexican border....its so surreal, literally a turnstile. One side america, the other......................
TIJUANA!
And we jumped in a cab to Tijuana airport, bound for Mexico City and the beginning of our aventura mexicana!!! ADIOS SAN DIEGO COMO TE QUIERO!!
