Hellooo pips and cores,
(As usual, it takes forever to load photos on this blog, so I'll put a couple on here but the rest will be in www.flick.com/photos/jilllucas)
Well, I'm in Beijing now but i've only now been able to get to a computer, so this is the blog from Yangshuo!
Hhhmmm, what to say....it rained alot...alot! But luckily not as much as they have had in the South so I can't complain! Managed to get out and abooot a little bit. After hiking up 800 very STEEP steps to get to the top of 'Moon Hill', the views were well worth it...but i felt so damn unfit!! I was puffing and panting like a deflated/fully 'flated balloon! hahahaha. and the chinese ladies that I went up with......hardly broke out in a sweat! hahahaaha. One lady, who was selling drinks, followed us all the way up and down the hill (which was infact a mountain I believe) just in the vain hope I would buy a drink off of her!.....and I did....coz i was knackered! and she fanned me all the way too, which i felt slightly self-conscious of, as she should have been fanning herself (which I told her) so she did for a bit, but then went back to fanning me! and who was I to argue after a while... i ended up loving that woman!!!
Next was 'The Water Cave'. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but wading through lots of water, I was not! hehehe. Twas quite a dangerous little hike through that cave, very poor lighting but pretty damn cool. There were mud baths and hot spas and lots of people slipping over (tried not to laugh...didn't want the 'karma' thing happening to me, but was very hard!hahaha) You had to enter and leave it via boat and the entrance was sooo small! Lots of ducking and diving going on and I have to say I was slightly worried that if it rained alot whilst we were inside, we wouldn't get out!!!! Luckily, it did not!
So after that and about 3 hours of bike riding through some of the most natural, beautiful countryside and seeing fabulously lush mountians, needless to say, I was rather cream-crackered!!!!
Oh the hostel I stayed at there called 'The Yangshouo culture house', was pretty cool. only 7.50 a night and that uncluded three meals! The dinner meal was a bloomin banquet and more than you could eat! Really can't see how they can make a profit!!! Although the 'squat' toilet and shower room were very small and very smelly! yuck!
Right, the crisp and apple situation.....! Unfortunately, One did not get to try the crisps, but apples I did.....Odd really...very refreshing once chilled, but not much of a taste and almost 'gritty' in texture! hmmmm.....the quest to find the perfect apple continues!!
Love to hear from you guys and let me know how you are!
Loads of chinese love and hugs (bows)
Jilly
