With only a few hours left in Hawaii, what do you do? Eat and go to the beach.
The snorkeling was so nice at Mauna Kea that we went back for a quick swim before packing. Then we zipped to the airport, but not before having another pizza at Kona Brewing Co. and trying a Steam Vent Lager (didn't like it so much... too hoppy) and a very delicious Oceanic Organic Saison. I liked it so much I bought the T-shirt.
We enjoyed our trip so much we already know what we'd like to do when we come back to this wonderful place. The second week of March features the Kona Brewing Festival, including a Run for the Hops 5K. We'd love to do more cycling next time. The road around the volcano is 11 miles, and there are apparently also bike trips that go to Waipio Valley, which we never visited. We'd like to try a glass-bottom boat trip or a whale-watching or kayaking trip as well. A Waipio nature hike from Hawaii Nature & Trail might also be in the cards.
We just can't wait to go back.
