It was another sunny day on Nantucket with hardly any wind. A perfect day for a ferry ride! We walked down to the dock in plenty of time for our 10.35am ferry. This time we sat outside. It was very pleasant out there in the sun - could have done with one more layer once the ferry reached top speed though. We reached Hyannis in an hour with no problem.
Our car was still there in the parking lot and we were on the road a bit after midday. It was about 4.5hrs to New York so we had a very short lunch & petrol stop after a couple of hours.
We went through 4 States again today- started in Massachusetts, back to Rhode Island, into Connecticut before reaching New York. We hit consistent traffic in Connecticut for the first time. There were also lots of roadworks which slowed us down a bit. Once we reached NYC, we realised we weren't heading for the bright lights of Broadway, where we had to drop the car off. We hadn't specified Manhattan in the GPS. So that added a bit of time to our trip. We eventually found the car place and then got in a cab to our hotel. We checked in about 6.20pm, dropped our bags and looked at a map to see how far away Central Park was. Jane & Travel Advantage had given us a horse & carriage ride but it was for 7pm. We knew we had to pick up a ticket 15mins beforehand from their office. We got a cab & he dropped us at the corner. We couldn't find the office at first. It was inside a bike hire shop. We got in there at 6.50pm and they turned out the lights as we were walking out. Just in time!
We walked up to Central Park and found the carriage we were to go on. The driver was friendly and the horse was lovely. It was nice to just sit back for a while. He took us through Central Park & showed us the Friends fountain and Strawberry Fields. He kept pointing out other places that had been used in movies but it was a bit hard to see some of them in the dark. Thanks Jane, it was fun.
After the ride, Robyn asked me where I wanted to go. No surprise that we headed straight for Times Square! We stopped at TGI Fridays and had America's worst mojito before wandering through the crowds of people down there. We went into some of the souvenir shops and the Disney Store. I thought I would be able to get some Frozen things for Ivy and Sassy but so much has sold out. It was the same in Toys R Us. Hopefully Disneyland will have more!
We eventually made it back to the hotel about 11.30pm. We need to fit in as much as possible tomorrow so some sleep is in order.
