Innsbruck (Austria)
28th-30th June
Day 1: We are dropped of at our hostel...... well almost, we are left at the bottom of a massive hill in which our hostel is at the top of. once we made it huffing and puffing to the top of the hill we booked in. what can we say about this hostel its not a giant tent its a converted set of flats which are some what crap in comparisson to the massive tent belive it or not. But its a bed thats warm (correction Boiling) and dry which is better than france was. :D
We went for a wonder to find well, not much its a nice place but very small and very little around except the snow capped mountains that completely surround the town (AMAZING!). One thing we did find easily though was the Gelato ice cream with so many crazy flavours to choose from it took some time to deside, Liam chose chocolate bannana and vanila cream yum! and Cobi chose strawberry and apple (yes apple ice cream) also yum! Wanted to go back for seconds it was that good.
We have met someone from the bus Rachael (From Washington DC) who was the only other person to get off the bus at innsbruck with us, she had coconut and apple we're both not a fan of coconut but she said it was yum!
It is by far the hottest day we've had so we walked to the local park to find some shade and refuel, only to be approched by a austrian with a badge telling us to get off the grass, before telling everyone else the same thing. Worst park ever! so are day was drawing to an end but there was still time to join two more american girls Sophie and Alaina (from San Francisco) in the local pub to watch the football. Us rooting for the italians and them the germans.... BOOO (one of them was half german so I guess its ok). The result was in our favour roll on the final when were in venice!
Day 2: Woken up to damn church bells, which were rining untill 12 at night and started again at 6am. The worst thing about them is as soon as one stops another starts arghhhh!
We were very excited about our first full day as we are heading to europes largest Zoo (Alpenzoo), this was the main reaon we came to innsbruck. First things first getting there... on the map it looked easy just down the road so we decided to walk it, little did we know it would take us half way up a mountain. This didnt phase us though we were too excited (have we mentioned we were excited?)
Alpenzoo was great! lovely place spiraling up the side of one of the surrounding mountains, with lots of animals we both hadn't seen before like wild bears (Cobi's favourite), bisons, moose, wolves and lnyx's (Liams favourite), the scariest were the bee's that cought us by suprise hiding behind a information flap (At least it looked like an information board). We got right up close to crazy big birds, mountain deer and the bears (well as close as you can get to a bear and have all your limbs intacked). The only disapointment was the lack of giraffes and meerkats.
So we made it round the zoo just...... steep paths and super hot weather arn't a good mix you end up tierd and sweaty in need of a lie down in the shade, trust us we know!
Zoo Highlights:
The Bears
The Lynx's
The turtles and not forgetting the turn your self into a turtle suit (See pictures).
After relaxing for a bit in the shade despratly trying to cool off, we decided the best thing to do is head down into town and get some more gelato (yummy).
As the day draws to an end we look forward to our late morning pick up to whisk us off to Venice for a whole week! Woop Woop.
