Ciao! Today was my first day of class - and I really wish all classes were like the ones I'm taking here. We met at the school, and then walked down to the Florence Cathedral / Baptistry / Duomo. We have readings everynight, and while we are at the actual landmarks or in front of the actual works, we discuss it. It's so amazing to stand in front of those buildings and see it first hand. The Gates of Paradise on the Baptistry are amazing, even though they are a copy of the original. I did however, get to see an actual panel from the original in the museum. Pictures obviously never do justice to any of the work. After touring around and discussion, we had the option of going upstairs or downstairs to the Catacombs in the Cathedral. I chose to go downstairs to the catacombs - I was hoping it would be like catacomb place that was in that Indian Jones movie (minus the rats and flooding, etc). It wasn't, but it was still really neat and enjoyable. After "class", we all went to go eat mexican (I know right, mexican in Itlay? but hey, I was outnumbered). After dinner two of my friends and I walked down to outside of the Duomo, where there was an orchestra concert going on live - it was so nice, sitting on the stairs of the Cathedral listening to the music. Very enjoyable weather too - it's been pretty hot during the day but at night it feels amazing.
