Adventures As Lewis
A relatively small hill just southeast of the Mount Carmel mountain range, Tel Megiddo is a treasure trove of ruins upon ruins from many nations and many kings. Historically Megiddo is very fascinating, but the real marvel is what is to come at this peaceful location. “And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army" (Revelation 19:19). “And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon" (Revelation 16:16). This hill, that consists mostly of man made layers of buildings upon buildings, also has a worship room that was some sort of high place built upon other high places. From the beginning God gave His people options. They could worship Him properly and prosper, or follow the practices of the peoples in the lands around them and His protection would be removed from them. Could this be the place where King Ahaz and many others "did not do right in the sight of the LORD" and "made [their] son(s) pass through the fire" and where they "sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree" (2 Kings 16:2-4)? God had driven out peoples from before them and had preserved their lives but was repaid with rejection time and again. Tel Megiddo stands as a reminder that God allows nations to rise and fall as He sees fit. And that His plan of salvation, including yet future events of war, is a sure thing.
