It's a hot one today - the temperature was already 35 degrees at 10am. Thankfully, it wasn't a catastrophic fire danger like it was a few days ago, as the Naracoorte National Park would have been closed. We drove the short distance south and booked into the Victoria Fossil Cave tour - it was about 75 minutes and extremely interesting. There were the usual limestone chambers with their stalagmites and stalactites, but further into the cave some fossils were found only 45 years ago, of mammals that are at least 500,000 years old. One fossil (Leo) looks like a giant wombat, and the other (Stanley), looks like a kangaroo, but with a koala shaped skull! The caves are a constant 17 degrees so very pleasant, but quite a shock when we came back out into the 40 degrees at the end of the tour.
We took advantage of the Cafe there and had a pleasant lunch, before heading back to camp as a storm was brewing. We took the awning in as the wind was building - it was fortunate we did that, as an hour later another poor van had its awning half torn away. We enjoyed swimming in the lake during the afternoon, until finally the rain came with a great thunderstorm and lightning show, for a few hours.
