Hi again
Last time dave wrote to you we had just got into cairns so i thought i would update you on whats gone on here so far. We started our diving course yesterday with a few hours in the class room then we got to have a go at what we had been taught in the pool at the pro dive teaching centre. It seemed a bit intimidating to me at first and all the saftety stuff they heap on you makes you think your going to spend half the time under water semi concious, gasping for air, or trying desperately to get to the surface without getting the bends. Luckily the more we have done the more comfortable we are both getting with diving, no suprise there. My favorite bit of the first day was balancing our weight and the air in our packs so we were neutrally buoyant and floating about, which is the most basic thing you do when ur scuba diving around but i thought it was fun.
This morning we were meeting at 7:30 so had to be up early, unfortunately due to setting the clock in semi darkness i managed to get 24hr clock wrong and woke up when we were supposed to meeting, after getting ready in about 30s we sprinted downstairs and managed to get picked up a bit late and disaster was averted. We did some more advanced things in the pool today like taking all of ur kit off and putting it back on under water, essential training obviously. We had our test this afternoon and managed to pass with a average score between us of 95% so turns out we might actually be safe at scuba diving. We booked our greyhound out of cairns for sunday night and booked into our reef and rainforest tour for the weekend before dinner and went to a lecture called reef teach on what we will see when we are diving. I learnt that if we touch anything or frighten anything chances are they will squirt/fire/bite venom or toxins in or at you that will mroe often then not kill you. maybe they glorify the scary bits but im still not going to go too close to anything and i have told dave hes got to aswell because as his dive buddy i would have to carry him back to safety.
We are off to the boat tomorrow at 6:20am for three days and two nights of diving. We are both probably going to opt into doing the extra trainiig to get to a depth of 30m while we are out there so hopefully we will both be adventure class scuba divers by friday! We are going to hire a camera too so if we are lucky and ur lucky maybe we will get to put some pictures of daves head in a sharks mouth or box jelly fish above his head!
I hope everything is still good in england for everyone. Sorry for such a long message.
take care
leo and dave xxxx
