Arrived in Wellington, NZ on Easter weekend, spending Easter Sunday wandering around a deserted Wellington in the rain. Feeling a bit jet lagged and just a little culture shocked. It was lovely to be met off the bus by my friend Ali who I lived with at Uni in Brighton. She lives with her boyfriend Dan on a beautiful farm in Levin about 2 hours north of Wellington complete with a gorgeous chocolate brown lab called Charlie Brown, Max the rooster, hen's, sheep and cows and the odd resident possum.
A huge thank you to them for putting me up, it was complete luxury to have a bath , a bacon sarnie and a sofa to sit on - I'm now so easily pleased! We were joined by Ali's friend Sarah who has been living in Melbourne and we spent a fabulous few days shopping, visiting the beach and Christchurch to see James Taylor and Carol King play. In Christchurch we stayed with Dan's mum - such a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome and at home, even turning the electric blanket on the bed on ready for when we got back! (Sarah and I were sharing a bed!) - see so easily pleased now!. We did some more shopping (I needed a whole new wardrobe after all!) drove up into the hills, Castle hill and Governers bay with fantastic views over the city on a glorious day. Also visited the Arts centre, Sol square and the botanic gardens - very English I found and like home from home with the bridges over the Avon river!
Now getting ready to set off on the road again with the Kiwi experience bus bound for extreme sports and some adrenalin hits - wish me luck!
