Colour of the ocean, pool, margaritas, Senor Frogs, tequila
Aaaaahhhh!!!!That's the sound we've all been making as we ease ourselves into the deck chairs at the pool next to the most amazing coloured-ocean here in Cancun or alternatively take the first sip of that delicious margarita that somehow tastes better just because we are in Mexico!!
But I digress as there are a few airport stories that need to be told.It was a long day of flying on Monday as we flew from Lima to Mexico City and then were stuck at the airport for a while before catching our connecting flight to Cancun. We were very happy to discover a Chili's at the airport thoughwhere Al could finally satisfy his rib craving and I was reunited with my favourite buffalo chicken wings (which everyone else agreed are a hit) and margaritas!Shaun is making me include the next part - everyone was making fun of me as I thought the people that were in wheelchairs handing out forms were just using them as make-do chairs while the others believed it was good that the airport was employing less-abled people (I'm still not convinced my theory isn't true however!).
Our arrival into Cancun was also very interesting.Georgie had us highly entertained on the way there as she proclaimed that she was very excited to be going to Cancun in Middle America - but also pronouncing the 'cun' part as 'cun' instead of 'coon'!Her travel karma kicked her in the butt again also when we went through immigration as she was taken away.I expected it was due to the green mamba passport and expected to be taken away myself but I breezed through.Georgie took ages to come through and of course the old plastic glove jokes were making the rounds big time by this stage - but she is sticking to her story that there was jut s problem with their computers - hmmm…Added to this, V and Al got a complete freak as their immigration officer - some nutjob who started telling them that it was good they were doing this trip now as the world would be ending soon!He went off about all his other theories also - the flu conspiracy, the eminent World War III, Obama being put into power only because he is black and how the next pope would also be black and that Israel and Iran would be at war soon.He even gave them a website to peruse - www.theflucase.com.Interesting!!
We then stepped outside the airport and were hit by the most immense heat - oh yeah, exactly the way V and I like it!Bearing in mind, this was midnight too!We were then transferred to our lovely apartment, Villas Marlin, which is on the beach in the hotel zone.We collapsed into bed and were greeted the next morning with the most amazing view - the ocean here is the most incredible shade of turquoise! It was a very lazy day spent at the pool which overlooks the ocean.Heaven and exactly what we had all been looking forward to after our mountain treks!Lunch was also true Mexican style - tacos from the side of the road - so good!
We were all finally in tune with V and her desire to go partying and we hit the town early for sundowners.'Town' consists of a series of bars and restaurants which resemble Vegas with all the lights and glitz - actually if it weren't for a little Spanish here and there, you would definitely think you were in the States rather than Mexico here especially as most of the tourists here are Americans.Much to the boys' delight, we started our evening at Hooters - but this was only for the chicken wings again! And Georgie got next choice with the Rainforest Café where we each got our own animal chair at the bar.Along the way, we took a series of very cheesy photos in different poses which you will see in our photo albums!Next stop was Senor Frogs which was a recommendation from Ian, Shaun's brother, from when he and Sal were here a few years ago and what a great recommendation it was!The sign outside 'happy hour all night' was an indication of what was in store (although that didn't mean cheap as we ended up spending just as much as for a big night in London unfortunately). What a fun and crazy night! It started off innocently enough with dinner and drinks on the water - but dinner was soon interrupted with the waiters pushing our heads back to pour tequila down our throats (and in some cases, i.e. Al - nipples being twisted!), taken off for some Mexican dancing (and minor sexual harassment in V's case) and many cheesy photos (like V and Al with the honeymoon heart but we didn't buy that pic as they wanted to charge us USD 25!).We didn't really help ourselves as we then were ordering rounds of tequila on top of that - 5 year tequila on one of Al's friend's recommendation. And yes, it is smoother but it's still tequila and it still kicks your butt!!
The stage activities got going after that - karaoke and all sorts of drinking competitions. We are proud to say that Georgie and Shaun represented Team Saffa well!Georgie got roped into a drinking contest which involved running with a balloon between her legs to various points in the bar and taking several shots. She killed the nerd and slapper she was competing against! And then Shaun ended up on stage for a dancing contest which his nipple licking and stage diving antics deserved him a win but unfortunately some redneck had more friends there so he got the title.Of course between all these activities, there was always something going on like a congo line through the restaurant with tequila shots at various points and phallic balloons being handed out?!We also got to teach the Americans some Saffa dancing (i.e. jumping up and down!) when the Black Eyed Peas song, 'I've Got a Feeling' came on - loving it!!Perhaps the best element of Senor Frogs though is the slide that starts on the top floor of the restaurant and ends in the lagoon - a punishment for losers of the drinking games!
Our joint hangover the next day ensured that we didn't make it much farther than our beloved pool where we baked in the sun for a good few hours before the boys treated us and missioned off to Walmart to do the grocery shopping and Al cooked us a Chili con Carne feast!
Our next stop is Playa del Carmen and we're really looking forward to that as it's sposed to be better than Cancun even!
