Been in Australia for just over 3weeks and nearing the end of my time 'Downunder'. Its been awesome experience but hard to put into words... but its changed me.. as a person i feel more fulfilled, a more confident person and an appreciative individual... haha wt a load of b******s! The weather has improved as we've ventured down the coast but Sydneys weather is not much more than an average Buckingham summers day!
We've stopped at many places on the way, spent many hours on a bus, and also slept many nights in below average accomodation, i've been peckered by many mosquitos and also asked copious amount of times if i'm irish...
Cairns unfortunatly wasnt as we expected, statravel agent blah blah hot all year round... it rained permanently whilst we were there! We met a fair few cool people, but everyone seems to be much older than our adolescent selves. We partied at a place called 'The Woolshed' famous around the town of Cairns. We bumped into a group of girls and a guy that we met in Thailand :s strange but turned out to be an epic. Had to be up the next day at 7am to catch a bus to Cape Tribulation which is a rainforest north of Cairns.
From Cairns we hit the dusty trail and went to Magnetic Islands for 2 nights. We were accompanied by a lone girl traveller called Emma who was very interesting but definitely more immature than us, even if she was 26! We also met a guy who was also on our bus who was going to the same place and he ended up joining the crew! our hostel owned an animal sanctuary so we held, baby crocs, lizards and gt our photos taken wiv Koala's brap! We then had a four hour session of buzzin around the island on scooters which was awesome.
Next we hit the Great Barrier Reef from Airlie Beach was an amazing experience. Got bad sea sickness on the way back, the waves were 3m and it affected one woman who was chundering badly fortunatly i dodged the chundering fashion and soldiered through it.
From Airlie Beach we had a cheeky 12hr bus ride to Hervey Bay for Fraser Island highly recommenable to any potential travellers to Oz! Fraser Island was just bully laughs with a group of fellow Brits and taking the piss out of a Delta Force style yank, i'd love to go into great detail about this tour but i'm far too lazy.. The Island is the biggest 'Sand only' island and there is more sand there than the Sahara Desert, not only is this an informative blog its also educational. It has many fresh water lakes which by the end i was sick of them Wayne our tour guide insisted in stoppin at almost all of them, but he made up for it by buying beer jugs for us... every cloud!
