Riding from Rotterdam, netherlands to Antwerp, Belgium was meant to be one of the best rides of the trip. I wanted to bring Wobbly Wheels to experience the scenery and adventure. Unfortunately it was none of the above. Torrential rainstorms and a ferocious headwind kept us at 15km/hr and we ended up on a different route than last time following a deathly boring cobbled bikepath alongside the freeway. Did I mention the headwind? Apart from seeing several people who were partaking in a race on giant scooters we were the only nutcases out there. In the end we arrived in Roosendaal, just north of the Belgian border and jumped on a train. Cold, tired and hungry we scoffed down chicken kebabs, washing them down with cans of Heineken and mini bottles of Rose. The sun started to come out as we rushed through fields and over the border and I couldn't help but wonder if we should have kept going. But as Wobbly Wheels quite rightly pointed out we're here for a holiday not an adventure and given we were averaging 15km/hr there's a good chance we'd be riding until 8pm. Besides we're checking into the Hilton Antwerp, it's my birthday and there's a bottle of champagne with my name on it. Enough said.
