Been here all of four hours and I love the place. Sure I am freezing my arse off but what a view! Now I am waiting for the much heralded sunset, hurry up already, while WW is sitting in a creperie 'all sunsets are the same" apparently, and this from a die-hard romantic! We are at Saint-Malo primarily because we live in a building of the same name. Ignorant, maybe, but by tomorrow we will be one step closer to being 'well-travelled' and 'knowledgable'.

We wandered around St Malo's old town this morning, within the walls built in the 1200s and renovated in the 18th century. It's not unlike similar port cities, once thriving with wealthy sea
merchants, pioneers and plundered by swashbuckling pirates (dunno about the last one). Think San Sebastian in Spain, Biarritz in France or Cap St Vincent in Portugal. It's old, cobbled streets, pokey weathered apartment blocks and breathtaking views in all directions. The ramparts (walls that protect a city from a charging opposition) and a dozen or so forts built offshore can only be accessed at
low tide. No wars here anymore, just prehistoric sized seagulls (how do they get this big without feeding on fish and chips?), tourists and boats. Oh and extra special sunsets.
