This was the first big stop at a city for me, on the road. I didn't know much of what to expect, other than what I had heard and what I experienced in the few days I had spent in Seattle back to back (few).
Never been one for the city, to explain in a nutshell, how I felt.
Yet there was a part of me that felt safe with the crew I was with and excited to impress my crew in my ability to keep up, make a decent impression on other kids/people we would meet as well as confidence in me from my crew.
We were also to meet up with fellow family, Jesse and Dakota! I couldn't be more exicted to see them when we showed up. As soon as I saw these two, I felt instantly relieved and had renewed confidence!
They had been here quite some time after their kitty, Prudence, had been attacked by a pit bull and held them steady in this city for her. Which was great for us, having friends who knew where the cool places were to hang out, get things, and sleep. :) As well as fellow friends they had made or recognized, now also our new pals as well!
The place to be was Kesey Square, especially considering the night we arived it was KEN KESEY'S (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Kesey) birthday! A famous author and outstanding party in what some considered "hippy movements" or prolonging, especially in the 80s and 90s. Interesting how life lands you in these places just about the time you could really use a relitive lesson...
The dirty kids around the city were plenty excited about the night. So we hung around for the "party" in memory of him. Around the his statue was a group of kids playing music (guitars and singing) and I joined them for quite some time, getting a break from the crew and not wanting to deal with some of the drunken drama that was starting between some of our crew members (not uncommon for them honestly). Bowden getting increasingly irritated as well.
So when it came time to leave, it got hectic. Not wanting to follow the drama, Bowden and I followed Jesse. Knowing he would get us where we were going to go to sleep on foot. Nani taking the drunkards in the van.
What we thought would be an easy venture to sleep turned into quite the needed adventure with our best friend and new friend follower from the square as well. We came across a beautiful, yet random and confusing, Tree Garden (we found out the next day). HOURS.
But I was just content with the venture and happy to be with Bowden and Jesse, if not my two favorite people, almost ever. lol
Finally, we get to the spot of sleeping, by following our intuition and the noises from family we heard when we got close, we get to the van with the others. Only to walk into the drama again. But Dakota, anxious for escape, quickly turned tail to walk back to the beautiful Garden for some time, before falling sleep under a huge tree, just the 3 of us (Dakota, Bowden and I), the happy little family trio together again.
